Base Power is rebuilding America's electrical grid by deploying distributed battery systems. The company is seeking a Test Engineer to lead the deployment, sustaining, and improvement of automated manufacturing test systems for battery backup systems.
You will own uptime, cycle time, and first-pass yield (FPY) improvements on manufacturing test equipment. You'll collaborate cross-functionally to ensure test equipment meets world-class standards, perform data analysis and voice-of-customer discussions to understand post-deployment challenges, and serve as a key technical contact between the design team and site operations. You will build and validate test equipment, deploy to production lines at contract manufacturers and internal facilities, and provide ongoing troubleshooting support. You'll also support equipment troubleshooting and qualification during development and ramp-up phases.
Base is a startup with a mission-driven culture. The role requires in-person work and may expand based on business needs. The Manufacturing Engineering team owns the interface between proof-of-concept and scalable, profitable production, defining process technology and equipment solutions while maintaining feedback loops with product design to ensure manufacturability at cost and scale.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 5+ years of experience in electrical test systems design
- Exposure to a wide variety of test and automation systems, production machinery, industrial sensors, data acquisition, safety, and I/O devices (pogo-pins, pressure transducers, temperature controllers, current and power meters, PLCs, etc.)
- Hands-on experience designing and building end-of-line and functional test systems
- Experience with Linux and Windows operating systems
- Understanding of grid simulators, RLC power manipulation, inverter operations, and power system controls
- Ability to read and understand software code (TestStand, LabVIEW, Python, Golang, C, C++)
- Experience with CAN bus communications and ability to interpret traces
- Basic proficiency in PLC programming and troubleshooting (Allen-Bradley/Siemens)
- Effective at summarizing and presenting data to technical and non-technical audiences
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience
