OpenGov is seeking an Implementation Engineer III to join its Professional Services team. You will design, configure, and enhance customer-specific applications using Government App Builder (GAB), OpenGov's proprietary low-code/no-code platform serving 2,000+ U.S. cities, counties, state agencies, school districts, and special districts.
You will split your time between designing and configuring business applications using GAB and partnering directly with implementation teams and customers to translate business processes into scalable, automated solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
• Application Configuration & Solution Design: Partner with customers and implementation teams to understand workflows and requirements. Translate business requirements into scalable application designs. Configure entities, forms, fields, validations, permissions, dashboards, and reports using structured standards.
• Data Modeling & Architecture: Design structured data models with entity relationships and cross-table references. Apply normalization and denormalization trade-offs. Configure field-level validations and data constraints. Support data migrations including field mapping and transformation. Troubleshoot data inconsistencies.
• Workflow & Process Automation: Configure approval workflows, routing logic, conditional triggers, and status transitions. Implement task assignments, notification rules, and automation components. Translate decision trees into platform logic. Optimize for compliance and audit transparency.
• Business Rule Implementation & Light Scripting: Implement conditional logic using platform tools. Write limited JavaScript for complex validations, calculations, conditional routing, and data transformation. Maintain clean, reusable patterns without overengineering.
• Integrations & Interoperability: Configure and validate integrations between GAB and external systems (ERP, financial systems). Support API-based, file-based, event-based, and scheduled data exchange. Design field mappings and transformation logic. Document integration patterns.
• Embedded Delivery Support: Serve as technical configuration specialist within active customer implementations. Partner with Project Managers and Implementation Consultants. Troubleshoot configuration issues during UAT and go-live. Provide technical documentation and knowledge transfer.
• Project & Delivery Management: Contribute technical effort estimates. Manage work across multiple concurrent engagements. Ensure timely delivery within project timelines. Maintain high standards of quality, documentation, and responsiveness.

REQUIREMENTS:
• 3–9 years total work experience, including 3+ years with low-code/no-code platforms (Appian, Microsoft Power Apps, Mendix, ServiceNow, etc.) or enterprise application configuration roles
• Strong understanding of data modeling concepts: entity relationships, referential integrity, normalization, denormalization
• Experience designing and implementing business workflows and approval automation
• Working knowledge of JavaScript or similar scripting language for business rules
• Ability to translate complex business processes into structured, configurable application logic
• Experience with integrations: REST APIs, file-based transfers, event-based workflows, batch processes
• Experience integrating third-party APIs and embedding outputs into larger application workflows
• Strong understanding of security standards (OAuth 2.0, JWT) and API documentation tools (Swagger/OpenAPI)
• Strong analytical thinking with systems and process-improvement mindset
• Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
• Proven success in fast-paced, iterative environments with cross-functional stakeholders
PREFERRED:
• Experience in GovTech or public-sector workflows (budgeting, grants management, procurement, capital planning, permitting, capital project management)
• Background in Professional Services, consulting, or customer-facing implementation roles
• Familiarity with security concepts such as role-based access control and data governance practices
