Salary: USD 95,000 - 130,000 / annual
Bedrock Ocean Exploration is hiring a Hydrographer/Geophysicist to process and analyze high-resolution seafloor data collected from autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) and commercial operations. You will work with multibeam echo sounder (MBES), sidescan sonar (SSS), magnetometer, and sub-bottom profiler data using commercial software such as Qimera, Seaview, SonarWiz, and Radex.
In this role, you will own rapid, iterative feedback on data quality, spotting artifacts and anomalies while reasoning about their causes. You'll be the person asking critical questions when something looks unusual—whether it reveals insights about the vehicle, survey plan, or seafloor itself. You will create data products and write-ups for commercial clients, serving as a primary point of contact for data quality issues, interpretations, and deliverables.
A significant part of your work involves direct customer engagement. You'll teach clients about the unique value of AUV data, explain trade-offs and limitations clearly, and bring them on the journey rather than simply handing over files. You'll help clients understand what they can do with high-fidelity seafloor data and build their confidence in interpreting results.
Bedrock is working with major governments worldwide on how uncertainty and accuracy should be defined in ocean data—literally helping write policy and guidelines that will shape the field for the next decade. You'll contribute to this work, collaborate with product and engineering teams on iterative improvements, and help build processing workflows that enable scaling.
The company is at the forefront of ocean exploration technology, using AUVs to map the seafloor at unprecedented resolution. This is a role for someone excited about seeing the seafloor in higher fidelity than anyone has seen before, who takes pride in craft and accuracy, and who relishes direct customer interaction.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Experience processing and reporting on at least two of: MBES, SSS, magnetometer, sub-bottom profiler, using commercial software
- Comfort with ArcGIS, QGIS, and/or AutoCAD
- Experience writing data reports for commercial clients
- Attention to detail and ability to spot artifacts others miss
NICE TO HAVE:
- Experience across all four sensor types (MBES, SSS, magnetometer, sub-bottom profiler)
- Light coding (Python/SQL)
- Offshore experience (ship or AUV operations)
- Certified Hydrographer (Cat A or Cat B) or Licensed Surveyor
- Experience in defense (mine countermeasures, unexploded ordnance), energy (oil & gas, offshore wind), or environmental survey
You should be a fast learner who asks good questions, treats processing as problem-solving rather than checkbox work, and operates iteratively. You're comfortable in fast-paced environments with changing priorities, use tools and AI to increase speed and accuracy, and communicate clearly with customers. You have a genuine connection to the ocean (professional, academic, or personal) and are excited about offshore exploration.
