Harbinger is an American commercial electric vehicle (EV) company developing a first-of-its-kind EV platform for medium-duty EVs and hybrids. As a High Voltage (HV) Systems Integration Engineer, you will own the critical layer between individual power hardware components (inverters, rectifiers, converters, battery packs) and complete, functional energy systems at MW scale, including generators, auxiliary power sources, electric trucks, and battery chargers. This is a high-ownership role on a growing team spanning multiple business verticals.
Key Responsibilities:
- System Commissioning: End-to-end system bring-up and commissioning at test and field pilot sites, including MW-scale generators, battery-based auxiliary power systems, inverters, and other high-power systems.
- Architecture Development: Develop clean-slate architecture for interfacing high-voltage systems with field-serviceable equipment, integrate protection equipment, and ensure compliance with UL and automotive standards.
- Interface & Communication Coordination: Link high-voltage components with SCADA and vehicle/grid networks using protocols such as CAN, Modbus TCP, I2C, optical links, and SPI.
- Test Automation & Scripting: Write Python or C/C++ scripts to automate bring-up procedures, sequence high-power runs, and log real-time performance data.
- Failure & Root-Cause Analysis: Diagnose and troubleshoot field problems, feeding data back to firmware and hardware design teams.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work directly with electrical hardware, systems, firmware, mechanical, and thermal engineers to ensure systems meet safety standards (IEEE, NERC, UL) and performance goals.
- Technical Documentation: Develop bring-up and integration manuals for customer and internal team use.
Requirements:
- 7+ years of experience in electrical systems integration and commissioning
- Advanced understanding of electrical engineering concepts with ability to think on your feet and propose solutions
- Ability to work with minimum requirements to develop solutions quickly and iterate
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ownership mindset
- BS/MS/PhD in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, or related field
- Proficiency in MATLAB, CATIA, and Capital
- Ability to travel 50% of the time within the US and internationally for troubleshooting and commissioning
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with generator and battery-based high-power systems (MW scale)
- Large-scale data-center deployment experience
- Proven track record of fast-paced commissioning and troubleshooting at customer sites
- Prior startup experience
