Salary: USD 600,000 - 900,000 / annual
Mesh is building infrastructure to enable consumers to pay and be paid with any asset, bridging the gap between tokenized assets and everyday commerce. The company connects 300+ exchanges and wallets to major platforms like PayPal, Revolut, and Kalshi, backed by leading investors including SBI, Paradigm, Dragonfly, and PayPal Ventures.
As Head of Off-Chain Engineering, you will own the complete off-chain engineering function across exchange integrations (US/EU) and fiat operations (India). This is a strategic leadership role where you'll define off-chain strategy, present it to the executive team, and translate it into clear charters, metrics, and execution plans.
Key responsibilities include:
- Owning reliability, velocity, roadmap, and organizational structure for off-chain engineering
- Staying hands-on by reviewing designs, diving into code, and leading from the front during major incidents
- Defining and hitting SLOs for connection and transfer success across the world's largest exchanges
- Building the integration platform, observability, and testing infrastructure that enables rapid exchange onboarding and prevents regressions
- Hiring, developing, and leading managers and engineers across multiple time zones
- Building direct technical relationships with exchange and payments partners
- Partnering with Product, Partnerships, and Customer Success to prioritize client impact
You'll work in a hybrid model with expectations to be in the San Francisco office at least 40% of the time (approximately two days per week), with flexibility based on role and team needs.
Requirements:
- 12+ years in engineering, including several years at Director level or above leading multiple teams and managers
- Deep crypto and payments context: demonstrated experience building or running exchange, brokerage, custody, or payments systems that move real money
- Very technical and hands-on; ability to design for third-party failure and go deep with senior engineers
- Comfortable in design reviews and presenting strategy/trade-offs to exec teams and boards
- Operational rigor in team leadership: metrics, on-call rotations, and postmortems as core leadership tools
- AI-native mindset with a track record of transforming how teams build with AI
- Bonus: direct experience at a crypto exchange, payments processor, trading firm, or fintech aggregator
