Salary: USD 600,000 - 900,000 / annual
Mesh is building infrastructure to enable consumers to pay and be paid with any asset, bridging the gap between tokenized assets and everyday commerce. The company connects 300+ exchanges and wallets to major platforms like PayPal, Revolut, and Kalshi, backed by leading investors including SBI, Money Forward, Paradigm, Dragonfly, Galaxy, and PayPal Ventures.
As Head of Off-Chain Engineering, you will own the exchange and fiat integrations that power Mesh's payment flows across the US, EU, and India. You will set the technical strategy for off-chain systems, build and lead the engineering organization, and maintain hands-on involvement in critical technical decisions and incident response.
Key responsibilities include:
- Owning off-chain engineering strategy across exchanges and fiat integrations, including reliability, velocity, roadmap, and organizational structure
- Defining off-chain strategy and presenting it to the executive team; translating strategy into clear charters, metrics, and execution plans
- Staying hands-on by reviewing designs, engaging with code, and leading from the front during major incidents
- Defining and achieving SLOs for connection and transfer success across major global exchanges
- Building the integration platform, observability infrastructure, and testing frameworks that enable rapid exchange onboarding and system reliability
- Hiring, developing, and leading managers and engineers across multiple time zones
- Building direct technical relationships with exchange and payments partners
- Partnering with Product, Partnerships, and Customer Success teams to prioritize client impact
- Presenting strategy and technical trade-offs to the executive team and board
Requirements:
- 12+ years of engineering experience, including several years at Director level or above leading multiple teams and managers
- Deep crypto and payments domain expertise: demonstrated experience building or running exchange, brokerage, custody, or payments systems that move real money
- Strong technical depth with hands-on capability; ability to design for third-party failure and engage deeply with senior engineers
- Comfort operating across contexts: design reviews, executive strategy presentations, and board-level discussions
- Operational rigor in team leadership: metrics, on-call rotations, and postmortems as core leadership practices
- AI-native mindset with a track record of transforming how teams build with AI tools
- Bonus: direct experience at a crypto exchange, payments processor, trading firm, or fintech aggregator
