Nox Metals is a technology-enabled metals supplier serving aerospace and defense manufacturers. The company operates production facilities in Metro Detroit and Los Angeles, using software and automation to deliver aluminum plate, bar, and rounds faster than traditional industry incumbents.
As Head of Engineering, you will build and lead the software organization that powers Nox Metals' customer-facing platforms, internal operations systems, data infrastructure, and applied machine learning capabilities. This is a hands-on leadership role combining strategic direction with direct technical involvement.
Key responsibilities:
- Define technical strategy and engineering roadmap across all software domains (customer software, commercial systems, manufacturing operations, data, infrastructure, ML)
- Recruit, develop, and lead a high-performing engineering team
- Design durable architecture spanning customer-facing, commercial, and manufacturing systems
- Maintain technical depth by reviewing critical designs and unblocking difficult technical work
- Translate company priorities into clear technical plans with defined owners and delivery dates
- Establish standards for reliability, security, testing, observability, and documentation
- Collaborate directly with sales, operations, finance, and manufacturing teams to understand workflows and requirements
- Build an engineering culture emphasizing speed, judgment, ownership, and direct user engagement
- Make informed build-versus-buy decisions and manage technical risk
- Measure engineering impact on customer experience and factory performance
You are a strong technical leader who moves fluidly between architecture, execution, and people management. You remain technically sharp and willing to engage with implementation details. You have shipped and operated business-critical software systems. You communicate clearly, make decisions with incomplete information, and raise the performance of those around you. You work effectively with both software engineers and factory operators. You are motivated by measurable business and operational outcomes, operate with low ego and high ownership, and remain steady under pressure.
Nice-to-have experience includes manufacturing, logistics, supply chain, or industrial software; optimization, data products, or production machine learning; scaling engineering teams in fast-growing companies; and proficiency with AI tools to enhance engineering speed and quality.
Requirements:
- Proven experience as a technical leader shipping and operating business-critical software
- Ability to lead and develop engineering teams
- Strong technical foundation with willingness to stay hands-on
- Clear communication and decision-making skills
- Experience working across technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Demonstrated ownership and performance under pressure
