Mintlify is a documentation platform serving 100+ million developers annually and powering docs for 20,000+ companies including Anthropic, Microsoft, PayPal, Spotify, Coinbase, and X. The company recently raised $45M Series B led by A16Z and Salesforce Ventures and has grown to 65 employees.
As Head of Engineering, you will be a strategic thought partner to the founders, responsible for shaping company and product strategy while translating that vision into engineering priorities. You'll own the scaling of Mintlify's engineering organization—a critical constraint on growth—by building a world-class team, attracting exceptional talent, and establishing the organizational structure needed to capitalize on strong market demand.
Key responsibilities include:
- Partner directly with founders on strategic decisions and company direction
- Scale the engineering team and build processes to support rapid growth
- Develop and launch major new product lines as the company expands beyond its core documentation platform
- Own engineering execution, technical foundation, and infrastructure priorities
- Improve engineering velocity, reliability, and quality while supporting enterprise customer needs
- Set priorities across product, platform, and infrastructure
You'll operate in an environment where each hire has outsized impact, with a culture that values learning velocity, grit, and unique personalities over traditional corporate playbooks.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Proven experience scaling an engineering organization from ~10 to 50 engineers at an early-stage company
- Deep technical credibility with hands-on experience in modern backend systems, cloud infrastructure, platform architecture, and systems at scale
- Exceptional talent builder with a track record of identifying, recruiting, developing, and retaining high-caliber engineers; views recruiting as a core responsibility
- Strong product and business judgment; has owned a product line end-to-end and understands how engineering decisions connect to customer needs, product outcomes, and company growth
- First-principles, high-agency leader: low ego, comfortable with ambiguity, willing to give direct feedback, thoughtful about designing processes for the company's current stage
