Tensec is building an AI-native operating system for global trade, helping freight forwarders, shipping lines, customs brokers, and logistics providers manage cross-border operations. Founded in 2023, Tensec is backed by Quiet Capital, Coinbase Ventures, Costanoa Ventures, and other leading investors, with a team from Meta, PayPal, Credit Karma, Goldman Sachs, Visa, Mastercard, and American Express. You will build and lead Tensec's compliance function and banking relationships in Brazil, reporting directly to the COO in New York. This is a hands-on role where you will personally review escalated transactions, set compliance standards, and manage day-to-day banking partner relationships. Key responsibilities include: - Own Brazil's compliance program end-to-end: KYB/KYC onboarding, AML/CFT monitoring, BCB/BACEN reporting, and COAF obligations - Become the trusted counterpart for Brazilian banks, managing relationships, negotiating fees and service levels, and landing new banking partnerships - Lead the first compliance tooling improvements by working with tech enablement, Product, and Engineering to automate manual review, reporting, or partner-response work - Maintain audit readiness with controls, records, and documentation that withstand regulatory exams and partner audits - Identify regulatory changes, licensing opportunities, and tax shifts affecting the business - Own local LGPD compliance and track Brazil's AI regulatory framework - Coordinate with compliance colleagues in the US and Mexico to maintain alignment while meeting local requirements - Handle reporting, documentation, and due diligence Brazil owes to financial partners globally - Develop direct reports and build processes for a growing compliance team You will work with a dedicated tech enablement team to turn compliance ideas into working tools. The role emphasizes hands-on execution: you review real transactions, handle escalations personally, and represent Tensec directly with regulators and banks. REQUIREMENTS: - Hands-on Brazilian compliance experience: personally run KYB, filed BCB/BACEN reports, handled COAF obligations, and worked through an audit or exam (bank-side or fintech-side experience both acceptable) - Fluency in BCB/BACEN framework, AML/CFT rules, and licensing requirements for payments and FX - Real credibility with banking partners: managed multiple relationships simultaneously, worked through complex issues, and have trusted counterparts - Sound judgment on what to decide independently versus escalate - Systems mindset: notice repetitive work and translate it into clear requirements for vendors and engineers - Fluent English for daily communication with COO and international partners NICE TO HAVE: - Experience building a compliance function at a startup from scratch - Background in cross-border payments or FX - Track record negotiating banking terms - Hands-on experience implementing compliance technology - LGPD experience in financial services - Existing relationships with Brazilian regulators or senior banking executives
