Salary: USD 200,000 - 250,000 / annual
YipitData is a unicorn-backed ($1B+) market research and analytics firm specializing in alternative data for the disruptive economy. The company analyzes billions of data points daily to provide insights on ridesharing, e-commerce, payments, and more to major investment funds and corporations. YipitData has offices across the US (NYC, Austin, Miami, Denver, Mountain View, Seattle) and Asia (Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou, Singapore).
You will serve as Head of Cloud Infrastructure (Director level), reporting to the Chief Architect. This is a player-coach leadership role responsible for modernizing and scaling the shared cloud infrastructure powering YipitData's data-intensive products and engineering organization.
Key responsibilities include:
- Set and execute a prioritized cloud-infrastructure modernization roadmap, unifying existing initiatives into a coherent AWS, Kubernetes, and Terraform strategy.
- Lead a small, high-leverage global team spanning cloud platform, SRE, and DevOps, combining clear direction and hands-on technical judgment.
- Improve developer velocity through reliable paved roads, self-service workflows, and faster feedback loops.
- Establish and mature formal reliability practices: service ownership, SLIs/SLOs, incident management, error budgets, observability, and post-incident follow-through.
- Own disaster-recovery strategy, including recovery objectives, testing, automation, and resilience-gap closure.
- Design a sustainable 24/7 operational model with on-call responsibilities, escalation paths, and healthy global collaboration.
- Partner with the Chief Architect and engineering leaders to define platform priorities and clarify ownership boundaries.
- Define baselines and measure progress across delivery performance, developer experience, platform adoption, reliability, and cloud unit economics.
- Improve cloud efficiency through cost attribution, capacity planning, Kubernetes optimization, and measurable savings without sacrificing reliability or speed.
This is a remote-friendly role with US working hours and sufficient overlap to lead a globally distributed team. No travel required. Note: if remote work is performed outside YipitData offices, income may be subject to New York State tax withholding.
Requirements:
- 6+ years of relevant infrastructure, SRE, platform engineering, or developer productivity experience, with hands-on expertise in AWS, Kubernetes, and Terraform.
- Experience leading approximately 3–10 infrastructure, platform, SRE, or DevOps engineers.
- Demonstrated experience building or materially transforming a platform function and operating mature, business-critical production infrastructure.
- Experience helping a data-intensive SaaS, analytics, or similarly complex technology organization scale through rapid growth.
- Owned formal reliability practices including SLOs, incident management, production operations, and disaster recovery; ability to design a sustainable on-call model.
- Improved developer velocity or platform experience through self-service capabilities, standardized workflows, internal platform adoption, or measurable reductions in engineering friction.
- Ability to translate technical strategy into actionable roadmaps, make thoughtful tradeoffs, and influence through clear communication and credible technical judgment.
- Delivered measurable cloud-cost or infrastructure-efficiency improvements; understanding of technology-cost optimization beyond downsizing.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
