MODIFI is a global business payments solutions company focused on trade finance and payments. They are seeking an experienced Head of Accounting & Tax to lead financial reporting, audit, tax, and consolidation functions across the organization.
You will report directly to the CEO and work as a peer alongside the Head of Treasury and Head of Corporate Finance. Your responsibilities include:
• Own end-to-end execution, preparation, and closing of standalone and consolidated financial statements under IFRS across all MODIFI subsidiaries and a refinance-SPV in Luxembourg with precision.
• Drive group-wide external audits and actively manage local accounting and tax service providers across the Netherlands, Germany, Luxembourg, India, China, and UAE.
• Perform, review, and QA monthly bookkeeping, general ledger entries, board reports, and accounting workflows while mentoring your team.
• Enforce strict quality assurance on all tax filings, global tax planning, corporate income tax, VAT/GST, and payroll tax compliance.
• Establish and enforce internal financial controls and standard operating procedures to prevent errors.
• Leverage and implement modern AI tools, automation, and tech-driven workflows to streamline bookkeeping, monthly/quarterly/annual financial reporting, data reconciliation, and QA processes.
• Build strong relationships with executive leadership and peers, delivering highly accurate financial outputs directly to C-level stakeholders.
The role is based in Amsterdam or Berlin (with onboarding in Berlin if based in Amsterdam). You will manage an internal team as well as external service providers for bookkeeping, accounting, tax, and audit partners.
REQUIREMENTS:
• 5+ years of finance/accounting experience, with at least 3+ years in a team management capacity
• Strong foundation built over 4+ years at a Big 4 firm (EY, PwC, Deloitte, KPMG) or top-tier audit firm at Manager/Senior Manager level
• Deep expertise in IFRS reporting, multi-entity/multi-currency consolidations, and audit management
• Proven mastery in applying AI/automation tools to modern accounting, bookkeeping, and QA tasks
• Deeply hands-on mindset with uncompromising attention to detail and prioritization of quality execution
• Active CPA, ACCA, ACA, or local equivalent certification (e.g., Wirtschaftsprüfer/Steuerberater) ideally held
• Based in Amsterdam or Berlin with full flexibility to spend first few months on-site in Berlin for onboarding if based in Amsterdam
• Fluent English skills with executive presence to manage external providers and report to C-level stakeholders
• Valid EU Work Permit for the Netherlands or Germany required
