OpenAI's Consumer Products team is building hardware that brings advanced AI technology directly to consumers. This Hardware Engineer role focuses on designing, developing, and integrating complex hardware systems for next-generation AI-driven devices. You'll work across mechanical, electrical, and systems engineering disciplines, partnering with industrial design, operations, and software teams to create seamless, high-quality products ready for mass production.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design, prototype, and validate mechanical and electrical subsystems from early development through mass production
- Collaborate with design, operations, and manufacturing teams to ensure quality, reliability, and scalability
- Drive DFM/DFA (Design for Manufacturing/Assembly) reviews, design iterations, and bring-up of prototype and pilot builds
- Debug complex system-level issues and lead root-cause investigations and resolutions
- Partner with global suppliers and cross-functional teams to ensure execution from concept to launch
The role is based in Singapore with a hybrid model (four days per week in office). Relocation support is offered for new employees, and occasional travel to manufacturing partners may be required.
Requirements:
- 6+ years of experience in consumer hardware, consumer electronics, or advanced product development
- Deep technical fluency in mechanical, electrical, or systems engineering (cross-disciplinary experience preferred)
- Demonstrated track record of taking at least one consumer product from concept to mass production
- Hands-on problem-solving skills and ability to thrive in fast-paced, iterative environments
- Strong collaboration skills with focus on craftsmanship and user experience
