As Global Financial Controller, you will lead the global accounting function and serve as a strategic partner to the CFO and Chief Leadership Team. This is a director-level role responsible for delivering highly effective and efficient accounting services across all geographies and business verticals.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing strategic leadership to elevate the Global Accounting function into a center of excellence
- Designing organizational structures and capacity models to support scalable finance capability
- Leading and mentoring high-performing teams across statutory reporting, audit, payroll, treasury, compliance, and tax operations
- Driving end-to-end global accounting strategy and execution
- Establishing robust corporate governance frameworks and deploying industry best practices
- Championing global compliance strategy, standardizing SOPs and internal controls across diverse markets
- Directing risk management audits in collaboration with internal risk advisory teams
- Overseeing external and internal financial audit engagements (KPMG, Advance Accounting)
- Delivering timely, data-informed financial insights and board-level reporting
- Innovating and optimizing internal control frameworks with automation and modern finance tools
- Leading M&A integration across regional finance operations and enterprise systems
- Driving continuous improvement initiatives to modernize processes
- Managing global departmental budgets and optimizing resource allocation
- Evaluating and implementing AI tools and emerging technologies for operational efficiency
- Serving as trusted strategic thought partner to the CFO on transformational initiatives
The role is fully remote and based in a remote-first culture. Turnitin has team members across 35+ countries including the US, UK, Mexico, Australia, Japan, India, and the Philippines.
REQUIREMENTS:
Essential:
- 10+ years of progressive finance leadership with experience cultivating high-performing, agile global teams and navigating US business operations
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance (or equivalent) paired with CPA, Chartered Accountant, or equivalent professional credential
- Deep expertise in US/Global GAAP and ASC revenue recognition across multi-jurisdiction environments
- Strong working knowledge of US domestic and international tax accounting principles
- Proven track record in spearheading finance system modernization, automation, and agile operational workflows
- Demonstrated capacity to prioritize and deliver high-impact outcomes across complex, multi-threaded priorities under tight timelines
- Ability to translate complex financial concepts into actionable business stories for executive leaders and non-technical stakeholders
- Sharp business acumen to partner seamlessly with operational leaders and influence strategic choices
- Ability to connect big-picture strategy with tactical execution, leveraging data insights
- Demonstrated success leading, mentoring, and inspiring remote and global distributed finance teams
