Alan is a prevention-focused health insurance company serving 1M+ members across Europe and Canada. The Shop is Alan's e-commerce vertical, offering glasses, lenses, and wellness products integrated with insurance coverage. You'll join the Shop crew—a fully autonomous product team of PMs, designers, data scientists, and engineers—to build the member-facing experience.
In this role, you'll own the full lifecycle of Shop features: integrations with the e-commerce back office and virtual try-on technology, member-facing flows (dynamic catalogs, personalized checkout based on coverage, prescription scanning, returns), catalog expansion beyond optics, and compliance with healthcare regulations (France's 100% Santé reform, medical device rules). You'll also collaborate with ops, marketing, and legal to ensure seamless order fulfillment and product discovery through the Alan app and AI assistant.
You'll work across the full stack (React/React Native frontend, Python/Flask backend, PostgreSQL, Saleor commerce platform) in a monorepo. The team deploys daily, and engineers who make product decisions are the ones who build them. You'll use AI coding agents to accelerate development and focus on hard problems. This is not purely engineering work—you'll debate supplier contracts, review marketing copy, and debug prescription logic alongside product and ops teams.
The impact is direct: faster glasses ordering means members see better sooner. You'll own decisions and outcomes across a whole domain, with incentives aligned to member value, not transaction volume.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 8+ years building scalable software with full-stack experience (backend and frontend)
- Strong product mindset: understand the why before the how; comfortable working with members, ops, legal, and marketing
- Ownership from problem framing through shipping and post-launch analysis
- Comfort with ambiguity and complex problems; help shape scope rather than wait for specs
- Clear communication with non-engineers in English (French is a plus)
- Humility, curiosity, and genuine interest in healthcare accessibility
BONUS:
- E-commerce experience (catalogs, checkout, payments, order management, or headless platforms like Saleor)
- Curiosity about e-commerce + healthcare intersection
- Mobile experience (React Native) or LLM-powered product features
