Nory is a restaurant management system that uses real-time data, machine learning, and autonomous agents to help operators control margins, reduce waste, and improve profitability. Fresh off Series B funding led by Kinnevik, the company has grown to over 100 people across Ireland, the UK, Spain, and New York. You'll be Nory's first dedicated Staff Mobile Engineer, joining the Platform team to rebuild the Nory Team mobile app from scratch. This is a high-impact builder's role where you'll shape the mobile experience end-to-end. The app is used by restaurant floor staff to clock in, check shifts, book leave, and get paid—reliability is critical because a failed clock-in means a missed shift or missed paycheck. The core challenge: these apps run in basements with no signal, on cracked low-spec phones, for people who often speak English as a second language. You'll own the rebuild from assessment through production launch and beyond, working closely with product, design, and engineers across the business. Key responsibilities include: - Building for real-world conditions: patchy connectivity, low-spec devices (iOS 16+, Android 12+, 2GB RAM minimum), with offline caching strategies - Owning native-only features: push notifications for shift changes, camera-based scanning for receipts and inventory, geolocation-verified clock-in - Making and defending product and UX decisions independently (design support is lean) - Setting up a design system and structuring the codebase for AI agents to produce high-quality output in parallel - Growing the rebuild into a platform that other engineers can build on, owning quality and pace - Close collaboration with design and engineering teams, staying outward-facing as the core of a small platform team The tech stack: React Native (primary), Capacitor, React, TypeScript, Node.js, Python, FastAPI, AWS (Fargate, Aurora, SQS), Postgres, MongoDB, Docker. Requirements: - Deep production React Native experience in TypeScript; you've shipped apps at scale and can run a mobile codebase end-to-end - Hands-on with native-only features (push notifications, camera access, geolocation) - Comfortable reading and lightly extending FastAPI backend services; able to drop into React web code when needed - Experience building apps with real usage (tens of thousands of actions daily); careful about API calls, webhooks, and performance - Genuine product and UX ownership: you can point to specific decisions you made that changed what got built, not just general user empathy - Proven ability to work with AI agents while maintaining high standards on detail, design, and craft - Experience with greenfield builds or major migrations; you own problems end-to-end and take responsibility for architecture, testing, and migration decisions - Clear, confident communication; comfortable being the outward-facing hub of a small platform team - Right to work in UK or EU without sponsorship (visa sponsorship not available) Bonus: experience with people/HR tech, web and mobile platform team background, B2C/consumer app experience, hands-on native API work (Swift/Kotlin), or hospitality/food service industry knowledge.
