Greenlight Robotics is building public transit technology to make communities more efficient, accessible, and vibrant. The company is hiring its first core engineering team to deliver the initial production version of their system to early transit customers.
As a Founding Robotics Perception Engineer, you will report directly to the Co-founder & CTO and own the perception stack of the product. You will write, review, and deploy software powering data collection, object detection, sensor fusion, localization, and systematic model improvement. This is a hands-on role working directly alongside founders and the Lead Robotics Software Engineer to build major components of a complex, field-deployed system. The role offers extremely high learning velocity and the opportunity to shape a cutting-edge technology that will strengthen public systems moving billions of people daily.
Key responsibilities include:
- Build and ship core AI models: evaluate, implement, and continuously improve AI/ML/RL models for perception, sensor fusion, and object detection algorithms
- Optimize software architecture: develop and maintain major components of the software stack, driving code quality and execution to enable core features for first transit customers
- Drive product iteration: build out data collection pipelines to enable rapid, systematic iteration of physical-world robotics algorithms
- Shape the technical roadmap: independently identify performance bottlenecks across software components and help prioritize next technical features and improvements
Up to 15% travel required to customer sites.
REQUIREMENTS:
Must-have:
- 4+ years experience building and training vehicle perception models with sensor-fused 2D and 3D lidar data
- Demonstrated ability to create, maintain, and optimize complex robotic software within an integrated HW/SW product
- Ability to write and evaluate high-quality code using LLMs as an accelerating tool to increase output without building up technical debt
Bonus qualifications:
- Master's or PhD in Robotics, Computer Science, or equivalent focus
- 6+ years of previous experience developing perception stacks
- Previous experience in semi-automated or automated vehicle platforms
- Hands-on experience working directly on the hardware side of a complex robotics implementation
