Dex is building a marketplace to connect ambitious software engineers with companies where they can thrive. The company's mission is to close the gap between talent and opportunity, leveraging AI agents and technology to help individuals understand their strengths and find work they love.
As the Founding Data Analyst, you will own the complete data foundation for Dex end-to-end. This is a foundational role to build the data infrastructure that powers the entire company—from matching algorithms to product decisions, growth strategy, and commercial performance.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design and own core data models that serve as the foundation for all downstream analytics and product decisions, ensuring they are clean, trusted, and easy to build upon.
- Work within the product and engineering codebase to ensure data is captured and structured correctly at the source, before it reaches the warehouse.
- Build and maintain reliable data pipelines that connect systems and ensure data flows correctly through the business.
- Create a self-serve data platform enabling product, growth, commercial, and operations teams—as well as AI agents—to answer their own questions independently.
- Treat AI agents as first-class consumers of the data layer, structuring data to support analytical work at scale.
- Partner with the team to define and track metrics that matter: acquisition, activation, matching quality, and commercial performance.
- Translate ambiguous business questions into the right data models, metrics, and clear answers.
- Set standards for data quality, definitions, and instrumentation across the company.
As the first dedicated data hire, you will define how an AI-native company builds its data foundation from the ground up and build the function behind you as Dex scales.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience building data foundations for consumer products or marketplaces at scale, with a clear understanding of what good looks like.
- Strong engineering and analytical skills: able to model and pipeline data while interpreting what the data reveals about the business.
- Comfortable reading and navigating unfamiliar codebases; able to understand how systems model and emit data, and make confident changes within them.
- Fluent across a modern analytics stack (cloud warehouse, transformation layer, orchestration, BI tools) with informed perspectives on tool selection and trade-offs.
- Commercially and product-minded: focused on the metric and the decision it drives, not just the query itself.
- Platform-thinking mindset: you build solutions that others (and agents) can build upon, not one-off answers.
- Intelligent, ambitious, with strong judgment; a collaborative person who makes things happen proactively.
