EdgeRunner AI is a Series-A startup developing state-of-the-art AI systems for tactical edge deployment, enabling warfighters to make faster decisions, synthesize diverse data streams, and interact with robotic platforms using natural language. The company specializes in full-stack model training, experimentation, and productized AI delivery optimized for harsh field conditions.
As a Forward Deployed Scientist, you will represent the EdgeRunner Research organization in the field for key customer engagements and projects. You will work closely with core research, engineering, and business development teams while directly supporting customers critical to national security. Your responsibilities include:
- Traveling to customer sites (up to 25% of time) for prototyping, scoping, and implementing new AI solutions
- Training and evaluating AI systems and harnesses
- Conducting experimentation and research to advance edge AI capabilities
- Delivering world-class AI solutions to warfighter end users
- Collaborating with internal teams to translate business objectives into technical solutions
- Operating independently as a project owner while contributing to team efforts

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
- U.S. citizenship (required to obtain security clearance)
- Eligibility to receive a TS/SCI security clearance
- Experience performing experimentation in one or more of: reinforcement learning, large-scale data ablations, pretraining and midtraining, vision model training and multimodal training, machine translation and multilingual modeling, training data development, benchmark development, inference optimization, agentic harness development, robotic integration of LLMs, or blind model adaptation by end users
Preferred:
- PhD in a relevant field (computer science, machine learning, AI, or related discipline)
- Active TS/SCI security clearance
- Track record of taking initiative and operating independently
- Experience interacting with customers and translating business objectives into technical solutions
- Research experience from industry, military, or government roles
