Datarails is an AI-powered FinanceOS company helping finance teams transform their operations through intelligent automation, AI, and seamless integrations. With ~350 employees globally, the company is building next-generation finance technology.
As a Forward Deployed Financial Engineer (Platform focus), you will deliver Datarails' AI transformation engagements for existing customers. After implementation, you'll work closely with customer teams to understand their operations, identify where AI creates value, and bring solutions to life. Your focus is on how those solutions get deployed and run inside customer environments: integrations, authentication, secrets, hosting, monitoring, and release processes. You'll make solutions reliable, secure, and maintainable after handoff, and build tooling and reusable components that increase team delivery capacity.
Key responsibilities include:
- Owning deployment and operations of customer solutions (integrations, auth, hosting, monitoring, CI/CD)
- Building internal tooling, templates, and reusable components to accelerate delivery
- Delivering customer-facing solutions including AI skills, routines, workflows, applications, and agents
- Joining discovery sessions to understand customer systems, data, and constraints
- Taking full ownership of projects from recommendation through development, delivery, and handoff
- Working directly with customers to translate business requirements into technical solutions
- Engaging customer IT and finance teams in change management and adoption
- Building prototypes addressing immediate needs while identifying broader reuse opportunities
- Partnering with Customer Success, Product, and R&D teams to troubleshoot and influence product development
- Identifying recurring customer needs that could become scalable platform capabilities
- Explaining technical concepts and tradeoffs to technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Documenting solutions and repeatable approaches for future engagements
You must excel in two core areas: (1) customer-facing skills—running technical discovery, explaining tradeoffs to executives, maintaining composure when plans change; (2) shipping—owning problems end-to-end from conversation to working solution.
Technical priorities for the Platform focus (in order):
1. DevOps and infrastructure: taking prototypes to production in customer environments, APIs, cloud deployment, CI/CD, authentication, secrets, observability
2. Product engineering: building software people use and tools that help engineers ship faster
3. Applied AI: experience with LLM-based systems, agents, tool use, and their infrastructure requirements
REQUIREMENTS:
- Production experience in Python or TypeScript, with SQL and REST APIs
- Experience with at least one major cloud platform
- Experience integrating with business systems via APIs, handling authentication and secrets properly
- Ability to translate ambiguous business and technical constraints into clear, defensible recommendations
- Product-oriented mindset and system-level thinking
- Comfort working independently, managing projects, and taking ownership through handoff
- Ability to collaborate effectively with Product, R&D, Customer Success, and cross-functional teams
- Curiosity, adaptability, and willingness to experiment and solve problems creatively
HELPFUL EXPERIENCE:
- Forward deployed engineering, hands-on technical consulting, platform or DevOps roles, or early engineering roles with broad implementation responsibility
- Deploying LLM-based systems for real users, including production monitoring and evaluation
- Finance, accounting, FP&A, Excel workflows, or ERP/business system integrations (not required; learnable on the job)
