Telnyx is building a global connectivity platform with a private, multi-cloud IP network and edge computing capabilities. The company is financially stable and profitable, operating in the CPaaS and enterprise communications space.
You will be a Forward Deployed Engineer embedded in a two-person enterprise sales pod in Paris, working alongside a dedicated Enterprise Account Executive. Unlike traditional sales engineering, you own the entire technical lifecycle: discovery, architecture design, proof-of-concept development, and production go-live. You are a commercial partner, not a demo resource.
Key responsibilities include:
• Embed directly with enterprise customers to understand their communications workflows, AI use cases, and integration challenges
• Design and build custom implementations using Telnyx APIs (Voice, Messaging, Fax, Wireless), WebRTC, and AI Voice Assistants
• Deploy and operate LLM gateways (LiteLLM) in customer environments, supporting both hosted models (via Telnyx Inference) and self-hosted open-weight models (Llama, Mistral, regional European models)
• Instrument LLM usage with cost tracking, caching, logging, observability, and guardrails
• Wire production observability for all systems shipped—metrics, logs, traces, dashboards, alerting (Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, ELK, Graylog)
• Design model routing strategies for real-time voice workloads, balancing latency, cost, and quality with intelligent fallback behavior
• Evaluate build-vs-buy decisions between self-hosted and hosted models while maintaining portable application code
• Adapt models to customer domains: prompt engineering, RAG pipelines, and evaluation harnesses for French language and EU regulatory contexts (GDPR, EU AI Act, French data sovereignty)
• Lead POCs, pilots, and production launches from whiteboard to go-live
• Own customer outcomes and stay engaged until solutions are live and stable
• Collaborate with Product and Engineering to shape roadmap based on field insights from France
• Create technical documentation, runbooks, and maintainable solutions for handoff
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex integration issues alongside customer teams
Requirements:
• CS degree or equivalent professional experience
• 3+ years building and shipping production software (code that real users depended on, on-call experience, production debugging)
• Proficiency in multiple languages: Python, Node.js/TypeScript, Go (TypeScript especially relevant for Telnyx Edge Compute)
• Practical understanding of LLM production failure modes: provider rate limits, timeouts, retries, streaming, token accounting, cost attribution, concurrency issues
• Comfortable deploying containerized services on Kubernetes with secrets management, config, and upgrades
• Hands-on observability experience: Prometheus + Grafana, OpenTelemetry, Graylog, ELK, or equivalent
• High-concurrency systems experience: Kafka, message queues, event streams at scale (consumer lag, backpressure, hot partitions, rebalancing)
• API design experience: OpenAPI spec, REST/GraphQL, auth, rate limiting, versioning, idempotency
• Event-driven thinking and cloud-native instincts
• Exposure to SIP, WebRTC, or real-time voice/messaging systems
• Self-sufficient engineering judgment—no engineering team behind you; you read code/docs and make sound decisions independently
• Customer-facing engineering experience: discovery with customer engineers, presentations to executives
• Ability to translate "it's not working" into root cause analysis
• Comfortable on customer sites and in high-stakes technical conversations
• Fluent in English and French (written and verbal); can run whiteboard sessions, live troubleshooting, and escalations
• Based in Paris or willing to relocate; hybrid role with travel across France
• Legally authorized to work in France
Bonus qualifications:
• AI voice assistants, STT/TTS, or LLM-based conversational systems experience
• Building evaluation sets for specific domains
• Production experience with LLM gateways (LiteLLM, Portkey, Kong AI Gateway, in-house OpenAI-compatible proxies)
• Familiarity with open-weight model landscape and EU sovereign AI initiatives (Mistral, Aleph Alpha, Silo AI, Götalagsprojektet)
• Inference serving engines: vLLM, SGLang, TGI, Ollama; GPU capacity sizing for self-hosted models
• SQL proficiency (Postgres, MySQL, Oracle)
• ETL and data wrangling
• CI/CD pipeline design and automation
• Telecom, CPaaS, or high-growth SaaS background
• Sovereign/on-prem cloud deployments and EU regulatory frameworks (GDPR, EU AI Act, SecNumCloud, Schrems II)
• Security mindset: IAM, encryption, audit logging
