Telnyx is building a Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) role embedded in a local Enterprise Sales Pod in Amsterdam. You'll work alongside a dedicated Enterprise Account Executive to architect and ship production systems on Telnyx's global network—voice, messaging, AI, and wireless—directly with enterprise customers in the Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg.
You own the technical side of customer engagements: discovery, architecture, proof-of-concept, and production go-live. This is not a demo role; you'll build real solutions that work at scale. You'll embed with customers to understand their communications workflows, AI use cases, and integration challenges, then design and deploy custom implementations including AI Voice Assistants, Telnyx APIs (Voice, Messaging, Fax, Wireless), and WebRTC integrations.
Key responsibilities include:
- Embedding with enterprise customers to understand their technical needs and workflows
- Building and deploying custom AI and communications implementations
- Running open-weight LLMs in customer environments using Telnyx Inference or self-hosted stacks (Llama, Mistral, region-specific EU sovereign models)
- Deploying and operating LiteLLM as a model gateway with unified OpenAI-compatible interfaces, routing, load balancing, and virtual key management
- Instrumenting LLM usage governance—cost tracking, caching, logging, observability, and guardrails
- Wiring production observability for all shipped solutions (metrics, logs, traces, dashboards, alerting)
- Designing model routing strategies for real-time voice workloads, balancing latency, cost, and quality
- Adapting models to customer domains with prompt engineering, RAG pipelines, and evaluation harnesses for Dutch and French language use cases
- Leading POCs, pilots, and production launches from whiteboard to go-live
- Owning customer outcomes until solutions are live and stable
- Collaborating with Product and Engineering to shape the roadmap based on field insights
- Creating technical documentation, runbooks, and maintainable solutions for handoff
- Troubleshooting and resolving complex integration issues alongside customer teams
You'll work in a pod model with no throw-over-the-wall handoffs—you and your AE partner win together. There's no engineering team behind you; you're self-sufficient, reading code and docs, asking customers directly, and making sound engineering judgment calls independently. You're comfortable on customer sites and in high-stakes technical conversations, and you can run discovery with customer engineers and present to their executives in the same week.
REQUIREMENTS:
- CS degree or equivalent experience
- 3+ years building and shipping production software (code that real users depended on, on-call experience, debugging in production; consulting background counts if this applies)
- Proficiency in multiple languages: Python, Node.js/TypeScript, Go (TypeScript is especially valuable for Telnyx Edge Compute)
- Practical understanding of production LLM failure modes: provider rate limits and quotas, timeout and retry behavior, streaming, token accounting and cost attribution, concurrency-related failures
- Comfortable deploying containerized services on Kubernetes with secrets management, config, and upgrades
- Experience wiring observability and being paged because of it (Prometheus + Grafana, OpenTelemetry, Graylog, ELK, or equivalent)
- High-concurrency experience (Kafka, message queues, event streams at real scale; understanding of consumer lag, backpressure, hot partitions, rebalance stalls)
- Experience building APIs from scratch (OpenAPI spec, REST/GraphQL design, auth, rate limiting, versioning, idempotency)
- Event-driven thinking and cloud-native instincts
- Exposure to SIP, WebRTC, or real-time voice/messaging systems
- Self-sufficient by default with strong independent judgment
- Customer-facing engineering experience (discovery, executive presentations)
- Ability to translate "it's not working" into root cause
- Comfortable working on customer sites and in high-stakes technical conversations
- Excellent written and verbal communication in English and Dutch
- Based in Amsterdam or willing to relocate (hybrid role with travel across Benelux)
- Legally authorized to work in the Netherlands or eligible for sponsorship
BONUS:
- Experience with AI voice assistants, STT/TTS, or LLM-based conversational systems
- Building evaluation sets for specific domains
- Production experience with LLM gateways (LiteLLM, Portkey, Kong AI Gateway, or in-house OpenAI-compatible proxies)
- Familiarity with open-weight model landscape and EU sovereign AI initiatives (Mistral, Aleph Alpha, GPT-NL, other European LLM projects)
- Experience with inference serving engines (vLLM, SGLang, TGI, Ollama) and GPU capacity sizing
- SQL proficiency (Postgres, MySQL, Oracle)
- ETL and data wrangling experience
- CI/CD pipeline design and automation
- Background in telecom, CPaaS, or high-growth SaaS
- Experience with sovereign or on-prem cloud deployments and EU regulatory frameworks (GDPR, EU AI Act, Dutch AVG/UAVG, Belgian GDPR, Luxembourg data protection, Schrems II)
- Security mindset (IAM, encryption, audit logging)
