Matter Labs builds private cryptographic infrastructure for regulated financial institutions, enabling direct settlement without exposing data or ceding control. The core product, Prividium, provides institutions with private environments featuring independent governance and interoperability across counterparties, asset classes, and jurisdictions through zero-knowledge proofs. Founded in 2018 and backed by a16z and Union Square Ventures, the company operates a fully remote team of ~70 with eight years of production zero-knowledge infrastructure experience.
As a Forward Deployed Engineer, you will be embedded with institutional customers, taking Prividium from signed deal to live deployment within their environment. Your customers include banks, custodians, and clearing houses operating legacy infrastructure built decades ago. You will own deployments end-to-end: integration code, permissioning, node topology, upgrade paths, and operational runbooks. You will build reference applications proving use cases across collateral movement, tokenized deposit transfer, and settlement flows. You will carry the pager for Prividium and hosted services, including incident response and prevention. You will collaborate with the Head of Product, Head of Sales, and core engineering team on account prioritization and platform evolution.
Success in this role requires shipping working solutions quickly, articulating confidence levels in recommendations, and identifying elegant general solutions within hard constraints. The company is hiring two people and seeks depth in one of two specialization areas rather than breadth across both.
REQUIREMENTS (All Candidates):
- Production software ownership and on-call experience
- Strong coding ability in TypeScript, Rust, Java, C#, Go, or Python
- Serious customer-facing technical experience (forward deployed engineer, solutions architect, or technical founder background)
REQUIREMENTS (Banking Track):
- Experience building or integrating software for financial institutions or regulated financial infrastructure
- Working knowledge of core banking platforms, custody and key management, identity and entitlements, ISO 20022 or comparable messaging standards, enterprise auth and network architecture
- Fluency with risk, compliance, controls, SLAs, and procurement
- Blockchain experience not required
REQUIREMENTS (Crypto Infrastructure Track):
- Experience with Ethereum execution clients and node internals (reth experience strongly preferred)
- Rust in production
- Production chain infrastructure operations: node topology, upgrades, sync and reorg behavior, monitoring
- Solidity experience or readiness to learn quickly; working understanding of rollup and bridging mechanics
- Ability to explain cryptographic trust guarantees to non-technical audiences
