Code Metal is an AI-driven software engineering platform that uses formal methods to produce provably correct code. The company serves defense, aerospace, and industrial customers including the U.S. Air Force, L3Harris, RTX, and Toshiba, helping them modernize legacy systems, optimize performance, and accelerate prototypes to production. As a Forward Deployed Engineer, you will own end-to-end deployment of validated customer solutions in high-stakes, mission-critical environments. This role bridges the gap between internal engineering and customer operations, requiring you to work directly with customer teams to integrate solutions into real systems, resolve deployment blockers, and ensure reliable production delivery. Key responsibilities include: - Own complete deployment accountability from implementation through production acceptance, ensuring systems work reliably on target hardware (GPUs, FPGAs, edge systems). - Work directly with customer engineers and operators to understand operational constraints and close gaps between validated solutions and production use. - Productionize and optimize compute-heavy pipelines (DSP, RF, communications, etc.) for reliability, performance, testability, and deployability on accelerators using Code Metal's platform. - Profile, debug, and tune systems for latency, throughput, memory, and power across heterogeneous compute environments under real-world constraints. - Debug across the full stack—algorithms, software, hardware, and toolchains—in complex deployment environments. - Collaborate cross-functionally with Solutions Engineers, Solutions Architects, product, and core engineering to resolve field issues and feed deployment learnings back into the platform. - Navigate ambiguity with high ownership, unblocking critical issues to move deployments forward in high-stakes settings. - Build reusable deployment patterns and playbooks to make future deployments more repeatable and supportable. - Support on-site deployments with travel as needed (30–75% depending on customer) to integrate, test, and validate systems in real-world environments. - Eligible to obtain and maintain U.S. security clearance; some assignments may require active Top Secret clearance. REQUIREMENTS: - 5+ years of experience in software engineering, systems engineering, or applied algorithm development. - Strong programming ability in at least one of: Python, C++, CUDA, Matlab, VHDL, Verilog, or Rust. - Hands-on experience with GPU programming, FPGA development, embedded systems, or edge compute environments. - Experience working with compute-intensive workloads (DSP, RF, communications, computer vision, etc.). - Demonstrated ability to optimize and deploy software on specialized or constrained hardware. - Ability to debug complex systems across software and hardware boundaries. - Strong problem-solving skills and ability to operate effectively in ambiguous, fast-moving environments. - Comfort working directly with customers and communicating technical concepts clearly. - Comfort spending significant time embedded with customer teams when deployment needs require it. - Preferred: Experience delivering software or systems in defense, aerospace, industrial, or other mission-critical environments. - Eligible to obtain and maintain U.S. security clearance; some assignments may require active Top Secret clearance.
