Base is rebuilding America's power grid through distributed battery networks. This Forward Deployed Engineer role embeds with cross-functional teams—Growth, Deployments, or Utilities—to solve real-world problems as Base launches in new states.
You'll work directly alongside sales partners, installer crews, and utility companies to understand how operations actually run, then build the software and tools needed to make each launch successful. This is end-to-end work: integrations, internal tools, data pipelines, partner-facing products, and firmware. You'll ship prototypes quickly, then harden solutions so other teams can scale them.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Embedding with teams and partners to learn operational constraints and pain points
- Identifying which problems matter most and deciding what to build versus what to fix through process
- Building full-stack software: frontend, APIs, data models, workflows, and stateful user experiences
- Working with utility partners on grid data to determine optimal battery deployment locations and dispatch strategies
- Launching new states by standing up partner integrations, workflows, and data pipelines
- Using product analytics and experimentation to guide decisions
- Shipping fast and iterating based on real-world feedback
Base operates at high intensity with a mission-driven culture. The role is in-person and requires flexibility as priorities shift with business needs.
Requirements:
- 2+ years building production software in product or full-stack engineering roles
- Strong frontend and full-stack skills across modern web apps, APIs, data models, and stateful user experiences
- Strong product judgment with a track record of turning ambiguous ideas into shipped, useful products
- Experience in 0-to-1 or fast-moving environments where user needs, product shape, and success metrics are still evolving
- Experience using product analytics, experimentation, and data to guide decisions
- Intensity, urgency, and a high bar for your own work
