Alex is an AI recruiter that screens and interviews candidates over voice—on the web and over the phone—integrated directly into enterprise applicant tracking systems (ATS) and hiring workflows. Forward-Deployed Engineers are the technical owners of every Alex deployment, responsible for making Alex work seamlessly inside customer systems and processes. In this role, you will: - Design and build customer-specific solutions by translating hiring processes into executable workflows, including triggers, filters, interview guides, and ATS actions. When customers need capabilities their setup doesn't yet support, you drive the full cycle: design, build, test, rollout, and verification. - Own the integration surface across roughly two dozen applicant tracking systems (both direct integrations and unified API partners). You'll build new integrations, maintain existing ones, and go deep on systems you own, plus adjacent systems like assessment providers and identity verification platforms. - Run the technical side of customer onboarding, managing connection setup, permissions and scopes, job import, field mapping, workflow configuration, test interviews, and go-live sequencing to ensure nothing is discovered in front of a candidate. - Own production deployments and support. The team manages the support queue for both customers and candidates, diagnosing issues to root cause rather than working around them. You'll also build monitoring to catch problems before customers need to call. - Serve as the technical voice of the customer. You'll identify patterns across many accounts where the product reaches its limits and translate those observations into evidenced cases for the product engineering team. This is an end-to-end engineering role: you design the solution, build it, integrate it, ship it to production, and own it afterwards. You'll work directly with customers, run your own working sessions, and communicate complex technical issues clearly in writing. REQUIREMENTS: - Real engineering ability: you read code, write code, and ship changes. This is not a technical-adjacent role. - Comfort working inside third-party systems with incomplete documentation; ability to discover what an API actually does versus what its docs claim. - Strong debugging instinct and reflex to gather evidence rather than reason from symptoms. - Ability to engage directly with customers without a buffer; capacity to communicate difficult topics clearly. - Strong written communication skills; a large fraction of this role's output is clear written explanation. NICE TO HAVE: - Forward-deployed, implementation, solutions, or integrations engineering experience, especially with long tails of third-party systems. - Experience building against messy enterprise APIs and living with the results. - Fluency with observability tooling (logs, traces, dashboards, alerting).
