The company focuses on solving unmet needs in defense and national security through a model combining centralized go-to-market with decentralized engineering.
You will develop firmware for embedded systems powering connected environmental sensing devices. This is a hands-on role spanning the hardware-software boundary, with ownership of device drivers, provisioning, firmware updates, and field support.
Key responsibilities include:
- Develop low-level firmware for microcontrollers and build reusable device drivers
- Bring up new hardware, integrate analog and digital sensors, and troubleshoot across electrical and firmware boundaries
- Collaborate with electrical engineering on microcontroller selection, schematic reviews, and hardware/firmware interfaces
- Develop device connectivity, low-power operation, remote configuration, and over-the-air (OTA) firmware updates
- Build and maintain device flashing, provisioning, and manufacturing test workflows
- Own firmware development from prototype through production and field support, including security, reliability, and hardware compatibility
The role requires eligibility to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance (active clearance preferred but not required).
Valinor offers competitive salary and equity, fully covered health/dental/vision insurance, 401(k), development stipends, unlimited PTO, two-week company holiday at year-end, and fertility benefits.

- Bachelor's degree in a related field
- Strong embedded C/C++ programming skills; experience with bare-metal and RTOS environments
- Experience creating custom sensor libraries and understanding firmware design best practices
- Extensive experience with hardware debugging tools (JTAG, SWD, trace probes, oscilloscopes, logic probes)
- Experience with embedded interfaces and protocols (SPI, I2C, UART, USB, CAN, Ethernet)
- Experience developing firmware for IoT devices (WiFi, BLE, LoRaWAN, Zigbee) including OTA updates and remote configuration
- Experience with low-power/battery-operated devices and embedded security principles
- Familiarity with product production, device provisioning, manufacturing testing, firmware version control and distribution
- Familiarity with PCB design process and electrical prototyping tools (soldering, reworking, reflowing, assembly)
- Comfortable with cross-domain collaboration with hardware, mechanical, and software engineers
- Builder's mentality, intellectual curiosity, and comfort taking ownership in fast-moving environments; startup or independent project experience is a plus
