Thunes is seeking an experienced Financial & Regulatory Reporting Specialist to join their Barcelona office. This role is central to ensuring timely, accurate, and well-controlled production of financial, regulatory, and safeguarding reporting while supporting regulatory change and strengthening the finance control environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare, review, and support submission of financial, regulatory, and statistical returns to regulatory authorities
- Own safeguarding reporting, including reconciliation and monitoring of safeguarded client funds, investigating breaks and discrepancies
- Ensure safeguarding and regulatory reporting obligations are completed accurately, reconciled, and delivered within deadlines
- Perform detailed reconciliations across bank accounts, ledgers, payment flows, and reporting systems
- Investigate and explain material movements, variances, exceptions, and reporting anomalies
- Maintain robust evidence, documentation, and audit trails supporting regulatory and safeguarding reporting
- Act as subject matter expert on financial, regulatory, and safeguarding reporting requirements, guiding Finance and business stakeholders
- Monitor regulatory developments and assess impact of new or amended reporting requirements
- Support regulatory reporting systems including maintenance, enhancements, data validation, UAT, and testing
- Identify opportunities to improve reporting processes, controls, data quality, and automation
- Develop and maintain reporting procedures, control frameworks, and operating documentation
- Support internal and external audit requests with clear explanations and evidence
- Collaborate with Finance, Risk, Compliance, Operations, Treasury, Technology, and senior stakeholders
- Contribute to a culture of financial control, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement
Requirements:
- Experience in financial and regulatory reporting within banking, payments, fintech, or another regulated financial institution
- Practical understanding of safeguarding requirements, safeguarded client funds, and related reconciliation and reporting processes
- Experience preparing, reviewing, or validating regulatory returns
- Strong understanding of financial controls, reconciliations, and reporting governance
- Ability to analyze large datasets and investigate discrepancies, breaks, and unusual movements
- Advanced Excel skills and confidence working with complex financial data
- Experience with regulatory reporting, finance, or accounting systems
- Experience supporting regulatory change, system enhancements, UAT, or reporting automation
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work to demanding regulatory deadlines
- Excellent communication skills and confidence engaging with senior stakeholders
- Proactive, hands-on approach and ability to work independently in fast-paced environment
- Qualified Accountant or equivalent professional qualification is desirable but not essential
