Salary: USD 116,000 - 189,000 / annual
Overland AI, founded in 2022 and headquartered in Seattle, is transforming land operations for modern defense through autonomous ground vehicles and command-and-control systems. The company has secured funding from prominent defense tech investors including 8VC and Point 72, and maintains trusted partnerships with DARPA, the U.S. Army, Marine Corps, and Special Operations Command.
This is a field-forward infrastructure engineering role spanning deployment, configuration, operation, and iteration of autonomous ground-vehicle support systems across real operational environments including military exercises, customer demonstrations, test sites, and integration events. The role encompasses infrastructure, software delivery, networking, and automation.
You will spend up to 50% of your time deployed at test sites, military installations, and operational events, standing up networks, diagnosing issues under pressure, and integrating systems with partner platforms and customer infrastructure.
Key responsibilities include:
- Deploy and manage supporting infrastructure (compute, observability, logging) to improve reliability and incident response in field environments
- Deploy and administer Linux-based servers and edge compute platforms in field and datacenter environments, including service management, containers, and virtual machines
- Deploy, configure, and sustain tactical mesh networks using Silvus or Persistent Systems radios and similar mesh networking platforms
- Configure and operate SD-WAN and adaptive networking solutions
- Integrate networking infrastructure across multi-vendor, multi-domain environments, connecting autonomous systems, cloud relays, and partner platforms
- Manage VPNs, tunnels, and jump hosts across distributed field sites
- Troubleshoot and resolve networking, RF, and system-integration issues during live deployments under time pressure and in resource-constrained environments
- Document network architectures, field performance, and integration lessons learned; provide actionable recommendations to improve operational readiness
- Act as an on-site technical expert, training operators and partner teams on network behavior, limitations, and troubleshooting
- Partner with software, hardware, and autonomy engineers to ensure seamless network integration aligned with mission requirements
When not traveling, you will contribute to cloud and on-premise infrastructure projects, CI/CD pipelines, security posture improvements, and automation tooling.
Requirements:
- Background in network or system administration, DevOps, SRE, or similar
- Fluency with Linux, wired and wireless networking
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance
- Willingness to travel up to 50% for field deployments
