Thea Energy is commercializing fusion energy using stellarator physics and computer-controlled planar coil arrays. The company is seeking an experienced Finite Element Analysis (FEA) Engineer to join a rapidly growing team and perform complex multi-domain simulations for thermal, structural, and magnetic analysis of stellarator systems. In this role, you will own complex multi-domain and non-linear analyses, define advanced material and weld modeling parameters, drive structural optimization, and justify critical design decisions to engineering leadership. You will develop and analyze sophisticated Finite Element Models incorporating advanced non-linear contacts, plasticity, and large deformations to support the design of major stellarator systems and prototyping activities. Your work will span thermal, mechanical, vibration, and magnetic load domains. Key responsibilities include creating complex FE models for first-of-its-kind components, optimizing structural designs for performance under loading conditions while minimizing weight and maximizing maintainability, and actively participating in the design process to identify improvements that lead to higher-performing, lower-cost, and more maintainable systems. You will provide technical guidance and peer review for junior analysts to ensure model accuracy and best practices. Additionally, you will identify required material property development to ensure accurate analysis, with specialized knowledge of cryogenic material behavior and welds. You will work in a fast-paced environment with ambitious timelines, requiring exceptional work ethic, adaptability, and a continuous improvement mindset. Strong collaboration and communication skills are essential, as you will work closely with cross-functional engineering teams. QUALIFICATIONS: - Minimum 4+ years of professional experience performing Finite Element Analysis using commercial software packages - Strong background in mechanical engineering, applied mechanics, materials, and simulation - Demonstrated ability to solve complex engineering problems and identify root causes through meticulous analysis - Proven experience developing first-of-its-kind components or systems - Experience with scripting and building tools around commercial FEA software - Specialized knowledge of cryogenic behavior of materials and welds - Excellent communication and collaboration skills with ability to mentor junior engineers
