Halo Industries, founded in 2014 at Stanford University and backed by significant 2024 funding, has developed breakthrough laser-based technology to revolutionize semiconductor material slicing. The company is scaling volume manufacturing and seeking an Equipment Engineering Manager (Player-Coach) to lead and execute hands-on technical leadership across the equipment engineering organization.
This is a unique hybrid role combining strategic management with direct factory-floor execution. You will serve as the technical escalation point for complex diagnostic, electro-mechanical, vacuum, precision motion, and laser/optical system troubleshooting. You will lead, mentor, and grow a team of Equipment Engineers and Technicians while modeling technical rigor, safety, and continuous improvement.
Key responsibilities include: directly leading Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), and IQ/OQ/PQ protocols for new or upgraded manufacturing tools; building preventive maintenance (PM), predictive maintenance (PdM), and spare parts management systems from scratch to optimize OEE, MTBF, and MTTR; driving structured root cause analysis using 8D, 5-Why, and FMEA methodologies to solve recurring equipment failures and yield loss; and partnering cross-functionally with Process Engineering, Facilities, Manufacturing, and Executive Leadership to hit aggressive production milestones safely and cost-effectively.
The role targets high-growth markets including automotive, telecommunications, and power electronics. You will work on laser-based semiconductor processing equipment in a startup scaling from pilot to volume manufacturing.
REQUIREMENTS:
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics Engineering, or related discipline
- 7+ years of hands-on semiconductor or advanced capital equipment engineering experience
- 2+ years of technical team leadership, supervisory, or management experience (player-coach mindset essential)
- Demonstrated expertise in reading schematics, debugging electro-mechanical systems, vacuum/gas systems, or automated processing tools on the shop floor
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in high-growth startup or pilot-to-volume manufacturing scale-up environments
- Hands-on experience with Wafer Grinding, CMP, PVD, Wet Benches, Metrology, or Laser Processing equipment
- Strong background in Lean Manufacturing, 8D/FMEA, and SOP creation
