Mistral is building a sovereign AI cloud for Europe, providing full-stack AI solutions from frontier models to developer tools and compute infrastructure. The Cloud Platform team builds the systems enabling customers in finance, healthcare, and the public sector to run frontier models on European-jurisdiction infrastructure. This is a people-leadership role from day one. You will manage a team responsible for building Mistral's serverless containers product—the platform that lets developers run AI apps, MCP servers, APIs, and managed workers on the cloud without managing servers. Push a container, get an endpoint, and scale from zero to thousands of instances across CPU and GPU. You own the serverless layer end to end: the scheduler deciding container placement, the routing path for requests, and the machinery that turns a scaled-to-zero service into a warm instance before customers notice. All infrastructure runs on Mistral's own metal, network, and datacenters. The core tension is delivering scale-to-zero economics with cold starts in milliseconds, autoscaling that absorbs launch spikes without configuration changes, and GPU scheduling for containers. You will spend roughly half your time on architecture decisions and the hardest technical problems the team faces, and half leading your squad through hiring, coaching, performance management, and growth paths. You will write Go alongside your team and own the architecture and hardest implementation decisions. You will grow engineers by setting standards for ownership and coaching people past their comfort zone. You will partner with Product Managers to turn platform decisions into products developers want to deploy. Key responsibilities include owning the container platform end to end (image delivery, placement, request routing, scale-up, scale-to-zero across CPU and GPU); making cold starts a solved problem through snapshotting, prewarming, and image-layer caching; treating AI workloads as the normal case; writing Go and owning architecture; growing engineers and setting ownership standards; managing people (hiring, performance, growth, feedback); and partnering with product teams. Requirements: - 2+ years of real people leadership: you have managed engineers, hired, coached, given honest feedback, and grown them - Shipped production systems in Go (not dabbled—shipped) - Built container or workload platforms (orchestration, scheduling, isolation, request routing), not just deployed onto someone else's serverless platform - Deep Linux knowledge: namespaces, cgroups, image layers, page cache—comfortable well below the application layer - Multi-tenancy instincts: density, isolation, and fairness when hundreds of customers share one fleet - Significant experience building complex backend or infrastructure systems - Partnered with product, design, and business teams to ship software that reached real users - Low-ego, team-first mindset; technical force other engineers want to work alongside
