Salary: USD 197,000 - 274,000 / annual

The Verifications team owns one of Checkr's most expansive product portfolios, including employment and education verifications, drug and occupational health screenings, reference checks, and right-to-work products. These products serve enterprise customers across widely different roles, industries, and regulatory environments, each with distinct compliance and screening requirements.
As Engineering Manager for Verifications, you will lead a team responsible for a broad surface area of the verification platform. Your focus will span both immediate system scalability and long-term delivery process refinement. Near-term priorities include scaling data quality and automation systems to handle rapid growth, while longer-term work involves expanding coverage and building a faster, more consistent verification experience.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading and growing the Verifications engineering team, setting technical direction, driving performance and career development, and building a hiring pipeline
- Owning the reliability and quality of a broad portfolio of fulfillment integrations, partnering with vendors and internal stakeholders to reduce friction and improve turnaround times
- Partnering with Product to define and execute the roadmap across employment, education, drug/health, and compliance products
- Driving technical strategy for scaling a complex, integration-heavy system with deliberate architecture decisions
- Leading the team's adoption of AI-assisted development practices while maintaining quality and accuracy standards
- Representing Verifications in cross-functional planning with Product, Compliance, and Engineering leadership
Checkr operates hub locations in Denver, San Francisco, Nashville, and Santiago, with an expectation of 3+ days per week in-office. In-office perks include lunch five times weekly, commuter stipend, and relocation assistance may be available.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 4+ years as an engineering manager with a track record of building and developing high-performing teams
- 8+ years as a software engineer with strong command of service architecture, distributed systems, and system design
- Experience managing complex third-party integration environments and owning reliability across systems you don't fully control
- Track record of improving operational metrics (reducing incident frequency, improving detection time, shipping reliability improvements in high-stakes production)
- Familiarity with AI-assisted development and agentic coding tools, understanding how to help teams adopt these responsibly
- Experience working on regulated products where data accuracy and legal compliance are non-negotiable
- Strong incident management skills for both technical response and stakeholder communication
- Ability to make prioritization decisions quickly with a clear framework for balancing short-term reliability against longer-term product investments
- Strong communication skills across technical and non-technical stakeholders (Product, Operations, Compliance, senior leadership)
