Vanta is hiring an Engineering Manager to lead the Vanta for Government team, a strategically significant expansion building an AI-powered compliance platform for government vendors, federal agencies, and State, Local, and Education (SLED) organizations. The platform automates compliance across complex frameworks like FedRAMP, CMMC, and NIST.
In this role, you will:
- Build and grow a high-performing engineering team through strategic hiring, coaching, and development while raising the bar on quality and delivery
- Drive execution across the government product roadmap, delivering multi-quarter initiatives spanning core compliance workflows, FedRAMP/CMMC/NIST-specific capabilities, and integrations for government customers
- Partner closely with Product and Design to translate early-stage, ambiguous requirements from design partners into focused engineering plans
- Navigate a 0→1 build environment, managing scope, sequencing, and cross-functional dependencies while maintaining team momentum and delivery velocity
- Establish engineering operating rhythms, standards, and practices that will scale as the product and team grow
You'll join at a critical juncture, working directly with early design partners and helping define how the team operates as it scales. Vanta is a Series D company founded in 2018 with a mission to help businesses earn and prove trust through continuous security monitoring and verification.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 3+ years of professional experience in a full-time engineering management role, with demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and develop engineers of varying seniority levels
- Strong technical foundation, ideally as a former senior engineer, with ability to engage meaningfully on architecture, system design, and technical tradeoffs
- Experience in early-stage or 0→1 product environments where requirements evolve quickly and judgment about what to build carries real consequences
- Experience in a regulated industry such as fintech or healthcare; FedRAMP, CMMC, or government domain experience is a plus but not required
- Track record of hiring, onboarding, and ramping engineers effectively, with demonstrated success building team cohesion and strong engineering culture
- Experience delivering complex, multi-quarter initiatives with cross-functional dependencies, balancing near-term customer impact with long-term platform investments
- Clear communicator who can align engineers, product managers, and design partners around shared technical direction
- Strong decision-maker who effectively balances ambiguity, available data, speed, and quality
- Open to using AI to amplify skills and strengthen work, demonstrating curiosity and sound judgment in applying AI responsibly
- Must be authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship
