Polymarket is the world's largest prediction market, operating as a CFTC-regulated exchange and clearinghouse in the US. The company recently launched its Trust & Safety program and is building surveillance and compliance capabilities in-house. You will lead the engineering team responsible for systems that keep Polymarket fair and safe. This includes identity and onboarding (KYC), fraud and financial crime controls, market surveillance, and user protections. You'll partner closely with Trust & Safety, Surveillance, and Compliance leaders who define policy and run investigations; your team builds the detection systems, controls, and tools that make their work possible at scale. Key responsibilities: • Own identity verification and onboarding systems (KYC), including vendor integrations, decisioning logic, and edge case handling. • Build fraud and financial crime controls: payment risk checks, AML transaction monitoring, and sanctions screening. • Develop trade and market surveillance systems that detect manipulation, wash trading, spoofing, and misuse of non-public information, producing alerts for surveillance analysts. • Ship user protections such as deposit limits, self-exclusion, and responsible trading controls with reliability across the product. • Build case management and investigation tooling for Surveillance, Compliance, and Trust & Safety teams, with audit trails and records required by regulated exchanges. • Hire and lead a team of senior engineers, set technical direction, and balance user friction against risk with sound judgment. You will work daily with policy, investigations, and compliance teams, translating regulatory requirements into concrete system design. REQUIREMENTS: • 8+ years in software engineering and 2+ years managing engineers. • Experience building trust and safety, integrity, fraud, risk, or surveillance systems at meaningful scale. • Comfort working in regulated environments and translating compliance requirements into system design. • Strong data-intensive systems skills: event streams, rules engines, detection pipelines, and real-time vs. batch tradeoffs. • Demonstrated collaboration with non-engineering partners (policy, investigations, compliance). PLUS (preferred): • Experience at an exchange, broker, or crypto platform with trade surveillance or AML obligations. • Familiarity with surveillance and compliance vendors (trade surveillance platforms, KYC providers, blockchain analytics). • Applied ML or anomaly detection experience for fraud or abuse. • Experience across both centralized and on-chain products.
