Salary: USD 215,000 - 265,000 / annual
Via is transforming public transportation systems into smart, data-driven networks. As an Engineering Manager on the Remix team, you will lead a full-stack engineering team building transit planning and scheduling tools that cities use to design smarter, more equitable transportation systems.
You will own the technical direction of a product combining complex geospatial data, React UIs, and algorithmic optimizations. Your responsibilities include leading and growing a team of full-stack engineers, partnering with product managers and designers to understand planner workflows, mentoring engineers at all levels, driving improvements to engineering processes (code review, CI/CD), and collaborating across Via's engineering organization on shared infrastructure and APIs.
The role requires balancing performance, usability, and reliability across the full stack while shipping features that directly impact millions of daily commuters. You'll run thoughtful 1:1s, create a culture of ownership and feedback, and translate customer insights into engineering priorities and architectural decisions.
This is a hybrid position with expectation of onsite presence in San Francisco 2-3 days per week.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum 8+ years of software engineering experience with strong full-stack foundation
- Proficiency in TypeScript/React (frontend) and Rails, Python, or similar (backend)
- Proven experience managing engineering teams and building environments where engineers thrive
- Production application experience including on-call, deployments, and production maintenance
- Comfort making technical decisions in complex, data-rich domains
- Understanding of databases, performance tradeoffs, and reliability/performance scaling
- Leadership style grounded in curiosity and empathy
- Motivation by real-world impact and ability to energize teams around mission-driven work
