Strava is seeking an Engineering Manager for the Privacy and Login team to lead a platform engineering function focused on consumer product. This is a hands-on role operating 60% as an individual contributor and 40% as a technical leader, requiring strong fullstack engineering fundamentals alongside people management.
You will own the technical roadmap for account sign-up, login, password management, and account recovery across Strava's iOS, Android, and web platforms. Key responsibilities include:
- Designing and implementing clear, intuitive privacy controls that give athletes visibility and control over their data
- Building reliable, predictable login experiences that work seamlessly across Strava Group's app portfolio
- Monitoring and improving login success rates, account recovery flows, and user engagement with privacy settings
- Partnering with Product, Security, Trust & Safety, and Legal teams to ensure compliance and platform integrity
- Driving consistency in authentication and privacy experiences across all platforms
- Leading the team through ambiguous, high-stakes technical problems with strong technical judgment
- Establishing best practices, operational excellence, and a culture of mentorship and inclusion
This is a platform engineering role, not a security or IAM specialist position. You'll balance user experience with robust data protection and abuse prevention, maintaining a holistic view of how authentication and privacy serve as foundations for trust, safety, and growth.
Strava is a consumer fitness platform with over 200 million athletes across 185+ countries. The company is backed by Sequoia Capital, TCV, Madrone Partners, and Jackson Square Ventures.
Work arrangement: Hybrid with 3 days per week on-site in San Francisco.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 1–2 years of management/people leadership experience (early-career managers welcome)
- 5+ years of strong fullstack or product engineering background with comfort across backend systems and consumer-facing UI
- Ability to learn quickly on the job how to build secure login experiences and user-friendly privacy controls (no prior identity-specific experience required)
- Ability to lead teams through ambiguous, high-stakes technical problems and drive consistency across platforms
- Product mindset balancing user experience with data protection and abuse prevention
- Holistic understanding of platform engineering as foundation for trust, safety, privacy, and growth
