Nourish is building an AI-native, patient-friendly healthcare system centered on nutrition. The company is live in all 50 states with thousands of dietitians and hundreds of thousands of patients on the platform. Recently raised a $100M Series C (total funding $215M) led by Menlo Ventures with participation from top-tier investors including Thrive Capital, Index Ventures, J.P. Morgan Growth Equity Partners, and others.
You will lead the Platform Engineering team, responsible for managing Nourish's technical infrastructure systems to ensure reliability and scalability while accelerating developer velocity. This is a hands-on role where you'll own the architecture that keeps patient and provider workflows dependable under increasing load, build systems that let product teams ship without rethinking infrastructure patterns, and help harden shared LLM/RAG systems into safe, production-grade systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build, lead, and develop a high-performing team of 4–5 engineers with strong technical ownership
- Coach engineers through regular feedback, career development, calibration, and performance management
- Scale the team through recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and onboarding
- Stay hands-on through architecture, pair programming, coding, code reviews, and on-call participation
- Set the vision and roadmap for the team by collaborating with engineering leads, security, IT, and cross-functional partners
- Drive thoughtful decisions around system design, code quality, observability, reliability, and scalability
- Establish effective team rituals including sprint planning, OKR planning, quarterly planning, and retrospectives
- Operate with urgency and sound judgment in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment
- Set technical direction for systems supporting business-critical work across the engineering organization
- Report on platform health to leadership through metrics like uptime, incident response time, infrastructure cost, and time-to-production KPIs
- Partner with IT and legal teams to maintain and improve security and compliance posture
- Build reliable, auditable systems that scale through rapid growth and regulatory complexity
Requirements:
- 6+ years of professional software engineering experience with modern full-stack technologies
- 2+ years of hands-on engineering management experience
- Experience hiring engineers and managing performance, promotions, and career development
- Remain technical enough to pair program with your team and contribute directly when needed
- Exceptional cross-functional judgment: ability to write a PRD, understand product team bottlenecks, size opportunities, and make progress without waiting on external stakeholders
- High proficiency with TypeScript, Node.js, PostgreSQL, ECS on AWS, or similar modern stacks
- Shipped and owned production systems in fast-moving, ambiguous environments
- Ability to balance people leadership with technical depth, delivery focus, and clear communication
- Energized by Nourish's mission to improve people's health through nutrition
Nice to Have:
- Healthcare or regulated-industry experience (HIPAA-covered systems, BAAs with vendors, access controls)
- Infrastructure as Code experience (Terraform, AWS CDK)
- Observability instrumentation (OpenTelemetry to Axiom)
- Incident leadership experience (on-call rotations, incident response, postmortem followthrough)
- Developer experience history (CI, internal tooling)
- Security engineering experience (vulnerability management, principle of least privilege enforcement, SOC 2 compliance)
