KOHO Financial is on a mission to make financial services better for every Canadian through transparent, user-friendly products. The company operates with a performance-driven culture emphasizing work-life integration, asynchronous collaboration, and remote-first operations.
As Engineering Manager, Platform, you will lead a full-stack platform team responsible for KOHO's mobile and web platform infrastructure, internal tooling, and risk domain systems. Your team will own the mobile app release process (build pipelines, release trains, app store submissions, phased rollouts, feature flagging), maintain web platform health and scalability, and manage authentication/authorization systems in collaboration with a dedicated team.
Key responsibilities include:
- Building and leading a high-performing platform team (full-stack engineers, employees and contractors), setting clear expectations, creating career growth paths, and maintaining a culture of ownership
- Owning mobile and web platform: release processes, CI/CD pipelines, app store submissions, phased rollouts, and feature flagging
- Raising frontend developer experience through tooling, shared components, CI/CD, testing, and AI-assisted workflows
- Delivering and maintaining internal tools for operations, support, and business teams
- Owning risk-related systems and experiences, partnering with Risk and Compliance stakeholders
- Managing third-party vendor relationships (evaluation, integration, performance, cost, renewals, migrations)
- Ensuring system stability and production health through observability, support rotation, incident response, and tech debt reduction
- Collaborating across platform teams and translating Platform OKRs into quarterly roadmaps
You will report to the Senior Manager, Platform Engineering and collaborate closely with peer platform/feature teams, Product, Design, Risk, and Security stakeholders.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 5+ years building and operating production software across web or mobile frontends and backend services, with hands-on depth to review designs, unblock engineers, and make sound architectural decisions
- 1-3 years managing an engineering team (3-6 people), with demonstrated success coaching engineers, managing performance, hiring, and building inclusive, high-trust team culture
- Track record of owning critical customer-facing or business-critical systems, setting and holding quality/reliability bars, and leading teams calmly through incidents
- Experience owning third-party vendor relationships, holding partners accountable to outcomes, and making clear build-versus-buy decisions
- Ability to thrive in ambiguity: taking high-level business objectives, structuring problems, and turning them into actionable plans
- Ability to balance strategy with execution: shaping roadmaps and improving team process while diving deep to unblock implementations or production issues
- Exceptional communication skills: explaining technical trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders, writing clear documentation, building strong relationships across Product, Design, Risk, and engineering teams
NICE-TO-HAVE:
- Experience with mobile CI/CD, release automation, app store processes, and frontend build tooling at consumer scale
- Track record building internal tools/admin platforms that measurably improved operations, support, or business team workflows
- Background in risk, identity, auth, financial services, payments, fraud, or identity verification domains; hands-on experience with vendors like Onfido or Auth0
- Passion for developer experience and treating platform as a product for internal engineers
- Enthusiasm for AI-enabled workflows in development, testing, and code review
- Experience building teams that own systems end-to-end with strong observability and feature-flagged releases
