Salary: GBP 101,600 - 152,400 / annual
GoCardless, a Mollie company, is a global leader in bank payments processing over US$130bn annually across 30+ countries. The Payment Success team builds intelligent products using machine learning and AI to help merchants get paid reliably, predict payment failures, recover funds, and protect cash flow across payment rails.
As Engineering Manager II, you will lead a cross-functional team of engineers, a designer, and data scientists. You own the payment intelligence products already built and collaborate with your product manager to define what gets built next. The team operates with autonomy—you define problems to solve rather than tasks to complete, and your team owns what gets built, how it's built, and how success is measured.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading and developing a team of engineers and data scientists through 1:1s, feedback, and career development
- Owning the quality, delivery, and operational excellence of everything the team ships
- Supporting projects from MVP experiments to full feature launches
- Raising technical standards and ensuring reliable, well-tested systems
- Planning and prioritizing impactful technical investments
- Collaborating across product, design, and data science disciplines
- Stepping in wherever the team needs support and earning credibility with senior engineers
- Reflecting GoCardless values in how you work with others
The role sits within a company culture emphasizing experimentation, learning, and high agency. You'll work with teams across North America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific.
Requirements:
- Professional coding experience with Python and Ruby on Rails (backend) and JavaScript/React (frontend)
- Commitment to building reliable, well-tested systems
- Proven experience hiring and growing engineers
- Strong communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences
- Enthusiasm for experimentation, testing, and learning
- Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams
- High agency and ownership mindset in a constantly changing environment
