Harper is building AI-led commercial insurance distribution at scale. The company is solving a massive market problem: 36 million US businesses need insurance, yet 77% are underinsured and 40% have no coverage. The current distribution system is slow, opaque, and confusing. Harper is inverting this by building 90%+ AI-led workflows that make humans more effective, improve customer experience, and eliminate friction. The company is adding ~1,000 customers per month and has grown 100x year-over-year.
As Engineering Manager of Growth, you will own the end-to-end growth engine: lead acquisition across all channels (web, aggregators, social, paid, organic) and intake capacity to move leads through to bound policies. The role combines technical leadership with people management. You'll grow a team from 5 to approximately 10 people over the next three months, with day-to-day management and career development as core responsibilities.
Key responsibilities include: leading and scaling the Growth engineering team; driving lead acquisition in close partnership with growth and marketing teams; owning intake capacity to ensure every lead can complete the funnel; architecting Voice AI systems for intake at scale (the primary technical complexity); partnering across growth marketing, sales, and operations; staying hands-on by unblocking the team, shaping architecture, and writing code when needed; and hiring to build out the team.
The role is highly collaborative and requires comfort with both technical depth and stakeholder management. You'll work in a fast-moving, operations-heavy environment where speed is expected.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum two years as a line manager, directly managing teams of 6+ people
- Product-first company background in a product-first role
- Demonstrated experience optimizing growth funnels end-to-end (top to bottom)
- Experience in operations-heavy environments with comfort partnering with non-technical stakeholders
- Willingness to get hands-on: diving into code when the team needs it, not just directing
- Fast-moving mindset with expectation that team operates at high velocity
NICE TO HAVE:
- Track record of hiring and building teams from scratch with personal network
- Experience with Voice AI or real-time/conversational AI systems
- Direct partnership experience with growth marketing and sales in high-velocity, operations-heavy businesses
- Prior startup experience, especially at hyper-growth stage
