As Engineering Manager, Foundations, you will lead the backend engineering team responsible for core platform services and systems. You'll own the high-scale distributed systems that power legal professionals' workflows globally, driving technical excellence at the foundation layer while mentoring and growing your engineering team.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading and growing a team of backend engineers through hiring, mentoring, and development at all levels
- Owning team health, efficiency, and unblocking work
- Setting technical standards for code quality, security, and system design
- Designing and implementing high-scale core backend services and APIs powering the entire platform
- Contributing directly to the codebase while supporting team growth
- Leading architecture discussions and technical decision-making on foundational systems
- Collaborating with product engineering teams to provide robust, well-designed foundations
- Reviewing code, providing feedback, and mentoring engineers
- Championing best practices in backend engineering and continuous improvement
- Working with Node.js, Azure, AWS, and Kubernetes

Requirements:
- Background as a seasoned full-stack or backend engineer with 1–3 years of leadership experience
- Strong communicator who leads with empathy and clarity, passionate about mentoring and team growth
- Deep experience building and operating high-scale distributed systems and core platform services with end-to-end ownership from design through production reliability
- Pride in building systems others depend on, with a high bar for correctness and resilience
- Ability to proactively and independently solve pressing problems
- Thrives in fast-paced environments where answers aren't always clear and processes are minimal
- Demonstrated ability to get things done and understand that building a successful company requires real hard work
