Salary: USD 180,000 - 243,000 / annual
Adyen is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead a new team within the Issuing organization, which enables businesses to monetize spend through fast, secure, and efficient payment solutions via digital and physical card issuance.
You will drive the technical roadmap for establishing an issuing program construct that supports expansion of Adyen's issued card product suite, translating ambitious business goals into world-class technical solutions. This is a ground-up build opportunity where you'll establish a new engineering team from scratch, shaping culture and hiring to create a best-in-class engineering organization.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing and executing the technical roadmap for the issuing program, managing project timelines and technical debt
- Building and leading a high-performing engineering team, with accountability for hiring, coaching, mentorship, and continuous performance management
- Serving as technical authority and domain expert for the banking product, challenging technical designs and maintaining an exceptionally high technical bar
- Acting as the point person for product technical decisions and speaking for the product across the organization and occasionally to clients
- Working closely with Product Managers, partners across engineering, product, commercial, and operations to deliver a best-in-class issuing product
- Maintaining a strong product mindset, understanding client needs, the banking industry, and broader market landscape
- Collaborating on complex projects involving multiple teams and external partners (bank rails, third-party vendors like Zelle and Plaid)
This Chicago-based role is part of the broader Financial Services product organization, which owns the full suite of financial products offered to customers including enterprise clients and embedded finance partners.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 2+ years of experience in people management with proven ability to build, maintain, and constructively coach high-performance engineering teams
- Experience working in the FinTech domain with exposure to Issuing and/or Banking, OR experience managing technical delivery of a highly critical, global product at scale
- High technical bar with in-depth knowledge of building and scaling world-class, API-based financial services
- Comfort discussing and challenging decisions made by Senior+ engineers
- Proficiency with tech stack: Java, Postgres, Kafka, RabbitMQ, Redis, Elastic
- Strong execution skills including effective communication, stakeholder management (internal and external), and strategic problem-solving
- Proven ability to lead complex projects involving multiple teams and external partners, with strong influencing and strategic thinking skills
- Deep care for customer experience and pride in delivering delightful experiences
- Work authorization in the United States without need for new visa sponsorship (company can support visa transfers but will not sponsor H-1B CAP applications)
