Snorkel AI is a frontier AI data lab founded out of Stanford in 2019, helping teams build datasets, benchmarks, and evaluations for high-performing AI systems. This role leads the engineering team responsible for bringing Snorkel's Data-as-a-Service (DaaS) platform to government and regulated enterprise customers.
This is a zero-to-one initiative. You will lead a team building the infrastructure and deployment foundation that enables Snorkel's core capabilities—data generation, evaluations, and benchmarks—to run securely in regulated, high-assurance environments without forking the product. Your responsibilities include understanding the technical requirements of regulated customers in depth, working with the platform team to make necessary architecture changes, and deploying services end-to-end into regulated environments.
Key responsibilities:
- Lead engineers through a zero-to-one build: define technical requirements of regulated customers, make architecture changes, and deploy and operate services in regulated environments end to end
- Partner with the platform team to decide where to adapt for regulated infrastructure while keeping one product moving forward across all environments
- Build repeatable environment provisioning using infrastructure-as-code and CI/CD that promote releases from commercial to regulated environments with security scanning and change control built in
- Partner with Security, Compliance, Product, and Applied AI teams to translate requirements (FedRAMP, NIST 800-53, CMMC, customer-specific) into engineering work with audit-ready documentation
- Own operational outcomes for regulated environments: continuous monitoring, vulnerability management, incident response, and evidence trails
- Design alternatives where services or capabilities differ between commercial and regulated infrastructure
- Drive hiring and team scaling while maintaining high engineering standards
- Coach and develop engineers and tech leads into owners who see problems beyond their own projects
- Set clear priorities, plans, and delivery commitments, rebalancing quickly as company needs shift
- Establish engineering standards for design reviews, testing, observability, and root cause analysis
You will work closely with the Applied AI team, who develop data and evaluations directly with customers, ensuring they can deploy and deliver inside regulated environments.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 6+ years of software engineering experience with strong hands-on technical depth
- 2+ years in an engineering management role leading a team of engineers
- 2+ years of hands-on experience deploying into government or other regulated cloud environments with isolated, air-gapped, or otherwise restricted networks
- Experience designing, building, and operating scaled systems in production in the cloud, including infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD, and containerized services
- Deep technical fluency: ability to go deep in architecture and design reviews and propose meaningful changes
- Experience with security-sensitive or regulated environment compliance (FedRAMP, NIST 800-53, CMMC, SOC 2, HIPAA, or similar); you don't need to be a compliance expert but must value rigorous, documented, auditable engineering
- Experience hiring, developing, and retaining strong engineers, ideally through rapid growth
- Clear communication with engineers, security and compliance partners, customers, and executives
