Swap is building infrastructure for modern agentic commerce, connecting backend operations with AI-native storefronts. The company centralizes global commerce operations, powers intelligent workflows, and provides real-time data for margin-protecting decisions across cross-border, tax, returns, demand planning, and next-generation agentic storefronts.
As Engineering Manager, DevOps, you will lead and grow a team of DevOps engineers responsible for the platform that powers all of Swap's products. You'll report to the Director of Engineering and collaborate with peer engineering managers.
Key responsibilities:
- Lead, coach, and develop a DevOps engineering team; set clear expectations, provide timely feedback, handle performance issues, and grow senior engineers.
- Own infrastructure spend as a first-class constraint; make cost trade-offs explicit in design decisions.
- Build and own the team's roadmap with engineering stakeholders, tied to measurable reliability, security, and developer productivity goals.
- Own squad quality and operational health.
- Embed AI-native practices into repeatable team workflows and measure impact on throughput, reliability, and quality.
- Build a culture where people raise risks and bad news early, with direct difficult conversations when needed.
- Share context and communicate goals within and beyond DevOps; collaborate with Director of Engineering and peer managers.
- Own the team's hiring plan and close strong candidates; build repeatable onboarding paths.
The role sits at the intersection of people leadership and systems ownership. You'll shape a roadmap that engineers want to use, keep the platform fast and reliable as the company scales, and demonstrate impact through metrics that matter.
Requirements:
- Proven experience line-managing engineers, including growing senior engineers and handling performance issues.
- Senior or lead-level experience in DevOps, SRE, or platform engineering with deep hands-on skills in at least one cloud infrastructure provider (GCP, AWS, or Azure).
- Deep experience with CI/CD, infrastructure as code, observability, incident management, and security.
- Habit of measuring impact and using metrics to drive priorities and decisions.
- Technical credibility earned through design reviews and architecture decisions.
- Experience standardizing infrastructure, deployment, and security policies without restricting innovation.
- Track record of efficient delivery across multiple projects in engineering organizations.
- Proven ability to run and reliably support production infrastructure at scale.
- Experience growing others through mentorship and delegation.
- Clear communication skills and ability to influence peers and partner teams across disciplines without formal authority.
