OpenFX is building infrastructure to power next-generation cross-border payment systems for institutions, processing billions of dollars in transaction volume monthly across global corridors. The company is backed by Accel, Lightspeed, and NfX, with a team drawn from JP Morgan, Goldman Sachs, FalconX, PayPal, Affirm, Polygon, Kraken, and Nium.
As Engineering Manager - DevOps, you will lead a DevOps pod of 10+ engineers and own the infrastructure that powers OpenFX's trading, banking, payments, and settlement products. Your responsibilities span multiple critical domains:
**Infrastructure & Resilience:** Design and maintain failover strategies, prove resilience through regular drills, and ensure high availability across multi-region deployments. Own the recovery posture for all tier-1 services.
**Compliance & Security:** Build controls for DORA, PCI DSS, SOC 2, ISO 27001, and GDPR directly into the platform using infrastructure-as-code, least-privilege access, just-in-time access patterns, change management, audit logging, and data residency controls. Work closely with InfoSec, Compliance, and Legal to embed security and regulatory requirements into designs from the start.
**Delivery & CI/CD:** Own the complete delivery path including CI/CD pipelines, environment management, artifact and secrets management, progressive rollout, and rollback capabilities. Enable product teams to ship without filing tickets.
**Observability & Incident Response:** Define SLOs for tier-1 services, implement alerting, provide fast DevOps escalation support for on-call teams, and lead blameless post-mortems.
**Team Leadership:** Lead by example—stay close to the technical work, review designs, help debug incidents, and roll up your sleeves when needed. Grow the team by identifying hiring needs, closing open roles, and investing in engineer development. Clear the path for engineers to do their best work and give credit where earned.
**Cost & Efficiency:** Manage cloud budget and ensure spend scales efficiently with transaction volume, with clear per-product attribution.
Success metrics include documented recovery objectives with passing failover drills, infrastructure controls holding up across audit cycles with available evidence, product teams deploying with low change failure rates, tier-1 services holding SLOs, efficient cloud cost scaling, growing and trusted engineers, and strong hiring outcomes.
**Requirements:**
- 8+ years in infrastructure engineering, with 4+ years managing an infrastructure team at scale
- Experience operating in regulated or audited environments
- Proven track record running production infrastructure for high-traffic systems across multiple regions, with learning from incidents, migrations, and growth
- Ability to write and ship code: Terraform, Helm, pipeline code; can debug production incidents
- Demonstrated hiring and performance management experience
- Leadership approach focused on growing people, with former reports attesting to your listening, path-clearing, and honesty
- Proficiency using AI agents and assistants to automate operational toil
- Clear written communicator comfortable with async-heavy, globally distributed work
**Nice-to-haves:**
- Experience running infrastructure in fintech, payments, banking, or exchanges
- Multi-cloud production experience (AWS plus GCP or Azure)
- Hands-on experience with DORA, PCI DSS, SOC 2, ISO 27001, or GDPR audits from infrastructure perspective
- Chaos engineering or game-day program experience
