Zynga, a global leader in interactive entertainment and label of Take-Two Interactive, is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead a newly formed Core Services team within the Development and Infrastructure Systems organization. The Core Services team is a small, distributed group that builds and maintains central services critical to Zynga's technology infrastructure and game portfolio across 175+ countries.
In this role, you will manage a pod of engineers on a day-to-day basis, overseeing both technical execution and team development. You will partner closely with a technical lead to drive standards for technical excellence, review engineering architectures, and provide meaningful feedback. Key responsibilities include defining and scoping projects, breaking down tasks with engineers, monitoring and improving engineering processes, and balancing maintenance of live services with forward-looking enhancements and refactoring initiatives.
You will work with a diverse set of central services, ensuring timely, high-quality outcomes while managing team morale, career growth, and future planning. The role requires hands-on technical depth in backend systems combined with strong people management and cross-functional collaboration skills.
REQUIREMENTS:
- B.Sc. in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent education/work experience
- 4+ years experience as an Engineering Manager
- 4+ years industry experience as a Software Engineer
- Ability to build and maintain roadmaps and schedules for diverse services, balancing support with new projects
- Ability to manage, mentor, and lead a distributed team of engineers
- Hands-on experience with low-latency systems and massive-scale backend online services infrastructure in AWS environment
- Background building backend services in modern languages such as Java or Golang, with depth to give meaningful feedback on microservice architecture, API design, and large-scale platform implementation
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code and Kubernetes deployments
- Ability to work collaboratively with engineering stakeholders including production, product, and customer engineering teams
- Excellent communication skills and commitment to continuous learning
BONUS QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience defining and maintaining SLOs for live services
- Experience with test-driven development and testing frameworks
- Familiarity with observability and monitoring platforms such as Datadog
- Experience with JS frameworks (frontend and backend)
- Experience with IaC frameworks such as Terraform and Helm
- Comfortable with low-level investigation of infrastructure and services
- Mobile development experience with iOS and/or Android
