Snowflake is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the development of a fully managed, cloud-native Postgres service—a strategic new product that combines Postgres reliability with Snowflake's data platform capabilities.
In this role, you will provide strong technical leadership across both the Postgres dataplane and the orchestration/control plane required to deliver a managed service. You'll be responsible for high availability, upgrades, backups, scaling, automation, and operational safety. You will break down complex problems and build consensus across multiple parties to reach scalable, tractable, and timely solutions. Balancing long-term architectural thinking with immediate business needs, you'll function as both a problem solver and problem finder—building the roadmap while delivering it.
You'll leverage deep experience to understand trade-offs between consistency, performance, scaling limits, and costs, ensuring solutions meet the demands of rapidly growing services. A key responsibility is ensuring operational readiness and meeting customer commitments regarding durability, availability, performance, and security. You'll apply software engineering and analytical problem-solving skills to solve real business needs at large scale.
Snowflake emphasizes an AI-native, experimental mindset across the organization. The company values low-ego individuals who thrive in dynamic, fast-moving environments and treat AI as a high-trust collaborator. You'll work closely with customers and partners to understand use cases, think strategically about problem selection, and innovate with rigor.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 10+ years of experience building and operating large-scale systems (distributed systems, databases, or cloud services)
- 3+ years of experience building, managing, and leading high-performing engineering teams (experience leading managers is a strong plus)
- Strong track record of delivering large-scale, resilient systems and services in production
- Significant experience in cloud environments (AWS, Azure, and/or GCP) and building services with high availability and operational rigor
- Strong communication and collaboration skills; ability to drive cross-functional alignment and influence across organizational boundaries
- Strong hands-on technical ability; comfortable navigating complex codebases and diving deep into system design and implementation
- BS/MS in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience
- Postgres experience: either depth as an end user, operator, or administrator with strong understanding of database fundamentals and trade-offs (consistency, performance, scaling limits, cost), OR demonstrated love of Postgres with solid understanding of database fundamentals
