Enode is a climate tech company building the software infrastructure layer that connects and orchestrates distributed energy resources—EVs, chargers, solar, batteries, and heat pumps—at scale. The company provides APIs and optimization tooling to energy retailers, utilities, and traders, enabling them to manage fleets of devices and participate in grid-scale optimization. Backed by Y Combinator, Lowercarbon Capital, and Creandum, Enode is reshaping how the modern energy grid operates.
You will lead the engineering team responsible for the software layer that connects home energy devices and enables optimization across entire homes and fleets. This is a strategic leadership role where you own the technical vision end-to-end, partner with product to shape an ambitious roadmap, and sit at the engineering leadership table alongside the CTO to influence company strategy and product bets.
Key responsibilities include: defining and maintaining high technical standards that the team is proud to meet; hiring and developing engineers who sharpen the team; setting clear expectations and holding people accountable with empathy and firmness; delegating real ownership rather than just tasks; leading the charge on AI adoption across how the company builds, ships, and operates; building cross-functional relationships with product and leadership; and providing direct feedback and psychological safety for your team to think out loud. You will push back on leadership and stakeholders when plans don't hold up, building trust through candid communication. The role welcomes both player-coach and full-management approaches.
The company emphasizes AI as fundamental to how it works—you should reach for AI as a reflex and help the team do the same. You'll have access to best-in-class AI tooling, dedicated time to build AI fluency, and an internal skills library. The team is remote-first in Europe with optional office access in Oslo or co-working stipends. The company offers three annual off-sites, a home office stipend, competitive compensation with an attractive employee option program, and a flexible, human-first culture.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 3+ years managing engineers, with genuine passion for people management
- Demonstrated experience leading remote, distributed teams
- Track record of building AI products that meaningfully contributed to team success
- Strong instincts for balancing simplicity with justified complexity
- Comfort shaping decisions at the engineering leadership level, thinking beyond your own team
- Ability to hold strong opinions loosely—fight for positions, then drop them when evidence contradicts you
- Proactive mindset: spotting problems before being asked and finding ways to fix them
- Genuine interest in the energy transition and climate tech, not just management as a craft
- Experience across different company stages or environments is a bonus
- Willingness to reflect on past mistakes and how they shaped your leadership approach
- Values you won't compromise on, even at personal cost
