Chainguard is a venture-backed software supply-chain security company that delivers hardened, secure, production-ready builds of open source software. The company serves Fortune 500 enterprises and global leaders including OpenAI, Snap Inc., and Snowflake, backed by top-tier investors including Sequoia Capital, Kleiner Perkins, and Spark Capital.
You will lead a fast-moving engineering team shipping developer-focused tools at the intersection of security and AI. Your portfolio includes the Guardener, hardened GitHub Actions, Chainguard Agent Skills, and emerging microVM-based products. This is a high-ownership role requiring you to move fast, take initiative, and measure success by what ships and who uses it.
Key responsibilities:
- Own a portfolio of products end-to-end, from roadmap through implementation, rollout, and iteration
- Hire, lead, and grow a small team of strong engineers; remove blockers and create conditions for them to do their best work
- Stay technically hands-on: review designs and pull requests, prototype when it unblocks the team
- Partner closely with Product on a roadmap with real deadlines; help the team prioritize tradeoffs and ship iteratively
- Navigate ambiguous problems and find clear paths forward; take initiative rather than waiting for complete specs
- Own the quality and reliability of shipped products; stay close to customers to turn feedback directly into the roadmap
The role is fully remote with team meetup opportunities, bi-annual destination summits, and a monthly stipend for coworking spaces. Chainguard offers 100% covered health insurance, flexible time off, 18 weeks paid parental leave, and stock options with a 10-year exercise window.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 2+ years experience managing engineers with genuine, sustained passion for leading and growing a team
- Track record of shipping products or major features and owning the results
- Strong technical background; ability to read code, review designs, and reason about architecture and tradeoffs
- Proficiency with Go or strong readiness to ramp quickly
- Experience building CI/CD systems, developer tooling, or product-facing platforms; familiarity with containers, Kubernetes, and cloud infrastructure
- Experience with AI tooling and genuine enthusiasm for applying it to complex customer problems
- Comfort with autonomy and ambiguity; bias for action; habit of shipping iteratively
- Strong communication skills and collaborative spirit working closely with Product and customers
