Cloudflare is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the engineering team building Agentic Commerce products within the Emerging Technologies & Incubation (ETI) department. The team builds infrastructure that makes the web payable, powering machine-to-machine commerce and enabling AI agents to navigate, consume, and act on the web with proper payment and authorization models. You will manage, coach, and grow engineers working across high-throughput payment pipelines, agent authentication, and web-scale commerce architecture. Your responsibilities include establishing clear priorities, creating predictable delivery, and giving engineers context and autonomy to own meaningful product areas. You will lead development of agentic payment systems leveraging emerging open standards (x402, Web Bot Auth, ACP, UCP) to enable low-latency, machine-to-machine micropayments. Key responsibilities include owning execution and engineering quality behind products like the Monetization Gateway; leading engineering for usage metering, pricing definition engines, outcome verification, and revenue attribution models tailored for agentic workflows; building capabilities that give businesses granular visibility and control over agent-generated revenue streams; partnering closely with Product Management to shape the roadmap; bridging mainstream and decentralized tech while keeping execution focused on high-throughput web and fiat commerce rails; balancing near-term delivery with thoughtful technical investments; owning operational health including observability, incident response, cryptographic security, and reliability; and developing technical leaders. This is a management role for someone who is deeply technically credible. You will not be expected to write most code, but you should understand the systems your engineers operate, challenge architectural decisions around payment rails and cryptographic auth, ask the right questions when something goes wrong, and step into technical problems when needed. Success is measured by team quality and output, engineer development, and systems/products delivered. The role may require flexibility to be on-call outside standard working hours for technical issues. REQUIREMENTS: - Led and developed high-performing engineering team(s) with demonstrated shipping and people growth - Technical credibility with experienced engineers; ability to review designs, understand distributed systems and payment platform trade-offs, and recognize when deeper investigation is needed - Comfortable managing teams across several related technical areas (digital wallets, payment protocols, web authorization) and creating clarity in ambiguous spaces - Deep care for reliability and quality, especially for systems handling monetary transactions or machine authorization - Strong product judgment and enjoyment working with Product Management on what to build, improve, or avoid - Comfort with ambiguity and finding structure where opportunity is clearer than roadmap - Clear communication, direct feedback, ability to explain complex technical decisions to engineers and non-engineers DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE: - Strong technical grounding in distributed systems, low-latency transaction processing, API design, web security, or adjacent areas - Building or operating products involving traditional payment rails, digital wallets, or open authorization/authentication standards (OAuth, WebAuthn, Web Bot Auth) - Operating systems where correctness, reliability, and security matter as much as feature delivery - Track record hiring, developing, and retaining strong engineers - Partnering with Product Management to shape and execute roadmaps - Taking products or capabilities from ambiguous opportunity to clear customer outcome - Strong written and verbal communication BONUS: - Familiarity with emerging agentic/machine-to-machine payment protocols (x402, AP2, ACP, UCP) - Experience building hybrid fiat/crypto payment infrastructure - Familiarity with Cloudflare's developer platform (Workers, Durable Objects, KV) or edge computing architectures - Experience turning complex systems into useful payment/commerce products for broad audiences - Experience with usage-based billing, metering engines, attribution systems, or complex commercial pricing models - Previous payments technology experience
